We are going to Sydney August 8th-18th then up to Cairns for warmth. We are visiting family in Sydney so very excited. I just want to check the weather in August. Will we be cold? We are from the UK so for us it maybe more like our Spring.

When we went in August weather was around 13C / 14C in Sydney, 10C Blue Mountains, Port Stephens hit it lucky with 20C and sunny despite location and Cairns / Atherton Tablelands / Daintree around 27C. Sydney was more like our spring than our winter including the variations in days.

We go often in August, the weather can vary a bit, typically we are in hoodies and day time max temperatures in the range 14 to 20 degrees. We were there 25th July to 12th August last year. There were a couple of days where it was t-shirt weather, maybe hit 22 degrees, but felt chilly as soon as you are out of the sun. It was very wet though last August, rained an awful lot, recommended taking rain coats and umbrellas. Other years it's not rained half as much as last year. Houses generally don't have central heating, some have air conditioning that heats, hope the people you are visiting have that. My in-laws house is baltic!

Air conditioning that heats up 😂. We call them reverse cycle, but l might start using that terminology.

It's true a lot of houses in Sydney dont have heaters. I'm in Melbourne and winters are brutal. We have heaters but houses designed to let heat out, high ceilings etc.

Cairns should be warm. We went mid September last year and it was really hot.

Thanks ! We are going in August as the school hols are so long and it’s cheaper to get there ! I’m ok with it not being so hot as so excited to take my family and haven’t gone myself in 20yrs! At least Port Douglas will be hot for us .

Where in Sydney will you be staying? The city and coastal areas can be several degrees different to in land and also the mountain temps.

I agree that generally a jumper would suffice. I've never needed a hat, gloves, earmuffs etc. Maybe a light pashmina which can double as a scarf. Also handy on the plane as a 2nd pillow or to wrap in if cold. A light jacket might be useful for evenings or if you do visit the mountains. Blue mountains inland from Sydney I mean, not needed for Atherton tablelands in QLD.

@7238SMWe will be in Sydney and there’s heating . On Balmoral beach so a lovely spot . Glad to know I won’t feel too cold like we can here
