London with arty goth ASD teen recommendations

Myotis · 13/04/2026 04:59

Hello- I am taking my 18yo to a random Japanese pop band gig in London in July, and we have a couple of days there. Any must see recommendations for an arty ASD goth who also loves Doctor Who and anime?? A bit niche 😆

What about the v and a storehouse in Stratford? You will need to book early for tickets to the special exhibitions.

Banksy Limitless
Japan Centre
Forbidden Planet megastore
House of MinaLima

Go down to Brick Lane and sign up to one of the graffiti walking tours there. Then go into the second hand clothes centre too.
There’s an amazing Doctor Who shop somewhere like East Ham or similar (you can get there by tube) as I know my brother goes there often. I’ll find out and post on here.
also Forbidden Planet on Shaftesbury Avenue.
My DS (similar demographic) loves the British Museum and also the Imperial War by but that obviously depends on him as an individual.
The other thing which is great if a bit overstimulated is a go on the uber boat down to Greenwich as plenty to see and great outdoorsy feel.

Highgate or Brompton cemetery.
V & A or British Museum
National Portrait Gallery

Temple of Mithras, in the City.

Camden Market. Your daughter is bound to find some suitable goth clothing and nik-naks there.

Japan House and the Design Museum, very close to each other in West London

Not sure about the goth aspect but this place is cool / arty with impressive graffiti. Near Waterloo and plenty of places to eat (and a board game café if that’s their thing!)

Dennis Severs house- incredibly interesting and atmospheric

BillieWiper · 13/04/2026 15:33

Forbidden Planet in covent garden. It's a massive shop with loads of goth geek anime etc kinda stuff.
There's a few quirky shops round there too down neal street and covent garden itself might have a few things of interest. There's an astrology shop on neal street and a hippy crystal kinda shop if they're into that?

The Saatchi Gallery - most of the exhibits are free with lots of modern art and installations to appeal to younger arty people! My teen grandchildren really enjoy going

The Hunterian museum - it's a surgical museum and quite gruesome (loads of specimens in jars) but it's incredibly cool and interesting, and great for a goth kid!

Old Operating Theatre Museum

StarCourt · 14/04/2026 23:45

There’s a great Anime place at Camden
market

Davros · 14/04/2026 23:51

There’s a Camden graffiti walk too

IThinkThereforeIPaint · 14/04/2026 23:52

Great suggestions.
Definitely a tour of the older part of Highgate Cemetery (book in advance). Fascinating.
Dennis Severs house, London Mithraeum.
See what's on at Wilton's Music Hall.
Leake Street graffiti and a wander around Lower Marsh cafes and shops while you're there.
Camden has changed a lot since my teenage goth years but still worth a look.
Brunel museum and the tunnel under the Thames is interesting and more unusual, if into history.

This awesome place in Holborn which has coin/token operated machines, hard to describe but super fun

Punks and goths can still be found in Camden Town. Along with some fun shops in the stables market etc. The Underworld is still pretty gothy if any bands are on and the famous pub for goths and punks Big Reds. Brick lane is fun too. I would let teen decide, they’ll have their own ideas from famous things they’ve seen on.. insta? Tik tok?

LaDrache · 15/04/2026 00:12

Arty Goth teenager, you say?
Go to Sir John Soane’s Museum, 13 Lincoln’s Inn Fields, at least once. No entry charge. More niches than you could shake a stick at. Hogarth. Piranesi. Sepulchral Chamber. The Breakfast Room. Sarcophagus of Seti I. Wonderful architectural models and drawings. Antiquities. Stuff. Stunning room treatments and use of colour. Much to see over a relatively compact area. Stimulating, but not exhausting.
An excellent 3D resource – Explore Soane – on the website (soane.org) should give you a flavour. It’s a fascinating place.

Soonflower · 15/04/2026 00:16

Novelty Automation arcade is fun too
