Visiting family for a few days in Norwich (we are from Wales) and would like to tag on a few days and visit somewhere else too on the way home. Any suggestions?! We like countryside, the sea, walking....thx

Whereabouts in Wales?

JustGiveMeReason · 11/04/2026 16:03

Was also going to ask which part of Wales.
Coming from Anglesey is a different route from if you were coming from Tenby.

HoppityBun · 11/04/2026 16:05

There’s not a lot of sea between East Anglia and Wales. I speak from experience. It very much depends on the route you’re taking and thus what part of Wales you’re returning to. Could you give details?

HelenaWilson · 11/04/2026 16:07

Not much seaside between Wales and Norwich, unless you plan to make a substantial detour somewhere....

I suppose Derbyshire might suit for walking if you're heading NW. Not sure about actual route.

FoxandDuck · 11/04/2026 16:09

What’s your route going to be? If M4, could you go via the Cotswolds?

FoxandDuck · 11/04/2026 16:11

And if you want seaside, could you do a day trip to the coast when you’re in Norwich? It’s about an hour to Southwold for example

There’s more interesting coastline in Norfolk without needing to go to Southwold.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 11/04/2026 16:44

Surely there’s no seaside between Norwich and Wales? It’s all cross-country unless you make a diversion.

Hunstanton , Wells by the Sea, north Norfolk coast on the way back ?

Deneke · 12/04/2026 19:08

If you've got kids then Searles in Hunstanton Norfolk is fantastic

bangalanguk · 12/04/2026 20:23

The Peak District fits the criteria for walking/countryside. The North Norfolk coast is beautiful too, Wells Next the Sea is lovely.

MiaKulper · 12/04/2026 20:34

I thought Peak District or Cotswolds too. Of the two, I'd choose the Peak District but it depends on the route.

Another option might to do a day or two in different cities, for example, Cambridge and Oxford if it might be relevant to the DCs' futures. Not what the OP asked for but they are quite a hike from Wales to visit otherwise.
Other cities and good universities are available.

Knowing the route would help.

Doone22 · 12/04/2026 20:37

Break your journey with a small detour halfway by going to new forest or Wiltshire .

MiaKulper · 12/04/2026 20:40

Massive detour if travelling from North Wales.
If not, the white horse at Uffington or the Ridgeway wouldn't be much of a detour from the M4.

OpheliaWitchoftheWoods · 12/04/2026 20:43

Depending on which part of Wales and your route, Worcester, Stratford, Warwick castle, Stow on the Wold?

I don't think Turkey is on the route from Wales to Norwich.

Meadowfinch · 13/04/2026 13:20

If South Wales to Norwich is basically M4, M25, M/A11

So either near Reading (Sonning maybe or Henley?) or wait until you get off the M25 the other side of London. A village in South Cambridgeshire?

MiaKulper · 13/04/2026 13:32

From North Wales (A55) it's through Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.

Where in Wales? We all know our roads can be, shall we say, circuitous!

MiaKulper · 13/04/2026 13:40

We haven't a clue.
