Majorca June/July 2026

Me and DH are normally explorers when it comes to travel. When we go away we love to see as much of a place as we can, visit historical sites, garden visits, we enjoy photography, we love exploring rural areas too etc...

Due to a few reasons this year, we're restricted as to when we can travel and which airport we can travel from. (Nothing drastic, just timings of annual leave and dog sitter availability etc...)

One of the options we have is Majorca. From a quick look it appears to be a mix of resorts, some quiet areas, some rural areas, some touristy areas etc... Would that be right?

We'll definitely want a mix of everything and some nice sea swims etc...

Would people recommend there for a quick summer break but with a bit of all of the above mixed in?

Yes, go to Formentor in the northern part of the island for a swim in a not-that-touristy area and to Valldemossa to visit the carthusian monastery and deep dive into the Chopin / George Sand connection.

Thank you, I'll look into these 😊

Agree with pp, Valldermossa is beautiful, you can also go on a train through the orange groves from a village near there

Soller and Port Soller are lovely and access to Palma by the little wooden tram and train.

Port de Pollenca is lovely. We were also pleasantly surprised by Gran Canaria - specifically Puerto de Mogan, which is on the quiet side. Lots of lovely hills and small villages and pine forests to explore if you look hard enough. In Mallorca, the caves were worth visiting (can’t remember the name of it but it was the slightly less touristy one!).

This is the pace where we caught the tram/train through the orange groves. We did a day trip to Valldermossa and Port Soller and it was beautiful. I would love to stay in Valldermossa for a week

Are the forests in Gran Canaria or Mallorca?

Thank you! We did have a quick look at Portugal earlier but I don't think we can make the flights work for this trip, but definitely for the future.

Pine forests on both! Mallorca is greener but we had a lovely time exploring the inner of Gran Canaria (where the rest of the tourists don’t tend to go)

TheFairyCaravan · 10/04/2026 15:04

I’d have a look at Menorca, too. We much prefer it to Mallorca.

Palma old town is lovely for a wander around, and I'd like to do Alcudia as well.

Caves of Drach

No I’ve just remembered - we went to the Cuevas de Arta as it was a lot less busy!
