Hi all

We have a family get together next year (mid May) just outside of Toronto and are wanting to extend the holiday with approx. a week somewhere else. We're considering Banff, being the opportunity to see some wildlife and wilder Canada, but is there somewhere were missing closer to Toronto (not Niagara)?

Alternatively, is there somewhere else in Canada that is lovely and we should really go? We will be going out there on a fairly regular basis but won't be able to afford a holiday on every visit, so want to make the most of the flights etc on this visit. Any recommendations (place, hotels, AirB&B) etc.

Budget is not endless, but as we've been saving already, it's decent (not youth hostel level), so all recommendations welcomed. Thanks.

my DS lives in Toronto and we go to Muskoka when visiting, love the variety of towns and lakes.

have you done the Niagara wineries?

The Maritime provinces are beautiful. So New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.

The Bruce peninsula is a beautiful part of Ontario and only about 4 hours from Toronto by car. Lots of lovely beaches and inlets, forests, and gorgeous places to swim in th lakes.

Banff, on the other hand, is 3,500km away from TO. Which is a hefty trip!

I agree with going to the Muskoka lake region - not too far from Toronto, and you could get a lovely cabin close to a lake. A good handful of lovely little towns to visit. You could stay around Gravenhurst or Bracebridge, or further north in Huntsville.

Alternatively you could go along to Prince Edward County (not to be confused with Prince Edward Island!) and spend a gorgeous week there, I would recommend a stay in Picton.

Thanks all, this is exactly what I needed.

Toooldforbrat, no and didn't know there were some. If it's only about the wine though, probably not for us (2 light drinkers, the rest don't drink), but if lovely countryside, may well be worth a go. I'll have a look at all of your suggestions.

We've mostly stayed with family (in New Brunswick) but have done a bit of travelling around. One place that we really enjoyed staying at was in Nova Scotia - the Tatamagouche Train Station Inn. Your room(s) are converted 'cabooses' - train carriages.

We loved Nova Scotia and spent a weekend on Prince Edward Island (L M Montgomery fan here).

Me too! Last time we visited 'Green Gables' I was really taken aback to see just how many Japanese tourists there were there. They really, really, really love Anne of GG!
