Do you take fewer holidays if you are generally happier?

If you had a fixed income, do you think you would take fewer holidays if you are happy at home?

Currently work a very stressful and busy job that I’m not particularly happy in. So spending a lot of money on trips to overcome that unhappiness.

Thinking of moving to a role that would pay a lot less but hoping to be happier day to day. This would mean less money for trips.

I am the opposite. I take more holidays if I am happier at work as it is a hassle to organise them and I only have the bandwidth in my brain when work is calm. If work is chaos I just want to spend my leave hanging out at home putting order back into my life.

Mind you we do not tend to do AI hols, usually ones that need planning. Maybe I need to look more at AI in the busy times ....

Same as above, we did more holidays when we were happier and less stressed. Last couple of years have been so busy and stressful so only done one holiday and haven't booked anything for this year yet as just don't have the headspace for it.
When life was easier we did 4 or 5 little trips a year.

I'd look at it this way, you are spending most of your time doing something you don't like and it's making you stressed. To counter that you go on holiday, which is great and fun, but only a small amount of your time.
For overall balance and contentment, I'd change jobs.

No, I work to be able travel and that's the case whether I am happy at work or not. Obviously the amount of travel we do is based on our financial situation, so if earning less we would travel less but that's because we don't have the money for it rather than not desiring to do it.

I don't think there's a straightforward link for everyone. Someone depressed may not go on holiday and someone happy at home but wants to explore and learn about new experiences might go on lots. So do what works for you. When I had a full on stressful but enjoyable job with higher income I took more holidays. If you don't enjoy your job I would look around though not the easiest time.

Work wasn't the factor for me to look for holidays - I took less when DD was living at home as a holiday with a AuDHD teen is very complicated. Nice but also exhausing.

We still do holidays - she is at uni - but DH and I are now doing more trips together.

I think you have to look at what motivates you to go on holiday. I do get that some people need escapism and potentially you may need less of it with a happier day to day life.
