I need a walking transport method for the school run which is up and down a big hill.

I have used a three wheeler double nipper for ages, but have done my back in and can't use it.

4 yr old can just about be persuaded to walk now (He perched in the middle before) but I can't use the nipper again as it excacerbates the back issue.

Buggy boards tend I find, to give an odd 'bum out' pushing position.

Anyone with any advice / thoughts.

I have a long body, which doesn't help.

How big is your hill? My three year old walked a mile to and from nursery for a few months before we moved.
I would have thought, choose whichever buggy you like, and one child walks each side holding on to it, with a rucksack rein if you like.

I'd go for a Phil and Teds in doubles mode. Have had a four year old perched on the front bit of mine before, but wouldn't want to make a habit of that!

My 3yr old isn't big enough yet. Its a big hill and 20 mins there, 20 mins back (at my pace)

Phil and Teds: how is it going up and down pavements? Worried it may strain back lifting it at back if heavy.

Having said that, I agree with FromGirders that the ideal would be to get both of the bigger ones walking, if the hill is not too brutal...

I'm typing very slowly tonight - sorry! It's OK going up pavements, for a double pram, but might be a worry with a bad back...

FromGirders · 18/06/2008 22:43

Can you get them practicing steadily longer walks over the summer holidays?

CarGirl · 18/06/2008 22:45

what is the back issue? The nipper is the lightest double out there. Was it a 360 or the fixed wheel, if so is it the fixed wheel aggrevating the problem?

ThomasTankEngine · 19/06/2008 20:33

I think its probably the fixed wheel, but a new one is a lot of money....

My friend has offered me a silver cross today which it seems has lots of space for a buggy board, so I'l try that.

Love the nipper otherwise.

I just started walking to nursery with my DD (she just 2 a month ago), it's 20min walk each way and up the hill too. Now it takes me 45-50 mins each way but she loves to be big girl and walk by herself.
Just saying if you have the time in the mornings and afternoons, make your older ones walk and they'll be fine. They start enjoyiong it and so are you

MiaMamma · 23/06/2008 15:27

meant to say: enjoying
