Off to copenhagen this weekend with DP, DF and two DS (12 and 10).

Suggestions of must do's would be great.
on the list already;

Boat trip - I will play down the mermaid as I recall being distinctly underwhelmed by it 30 years ago
Train trip to Malmo (any particular stuff to do there?)
Tivoli
Lego shop

Suggestions of places to eat for 1 fussy DS and 1 vegetarian DS particularly welcome.

Thanks so much

You must go to Gasoline Grill for a burger! Not sure if they do a veggie option but I’m fussy about burgers and these are fab!

we lived there2020 to 2022- love it and miss it !!

Baaken is great if open- the other big theme park up in the woods . Get the train which hugs the beach up to it

beach at Amager strand nice if not raining!!

dragor is lovely pretty fishing village - fantastic ice cream shops

copenhill really interesting - funky recycling plant with cafe and the outside is a dry ski slope

hellerup has a great interactive museum , great for kids ( ready no train)

torvehallen is a lovely indoor market- some great food stalls

roskilde Viking museum - Roskilde itself is nice too ( quick on train)

if wearher ok and it’s open go to Reffen for food - huge outdoor Camden market style place with funky vibe - you can then all pick different

cafe Vivaldi is decent and mid priced- multiple branches

thanks for that @Duvetdayneeded , they do a "green" burger so that looks like a good option!

@Clearinguptheclutter a few other tips- don’t be frightened to share meals- and just add extra salad or chips , it’s pretty expensive, but some really are almost American size!!

we used to do same with coffees, espresso house large were bucket size, so I used to carry around a clean take away cup when with H and we used to share them. That’s a lovely coffee chain by the way. They do huge ( shareable) ham , cheese and mustard focaccias!! Tivoli also has a good hall open to all, you don’t have to be in Tivoli - that’s decent and more budget friendly. Most places have lots of veggie options it’s very ‘clean living’ kind of place - there are some totally fantastic very clean public loos in the main square in the old centre, tiles, brass rails, attendant- full works and the 2 main department stores there illium and magazin have good loos ( great stores) - also take any brand medication you might find useful - denmark isa total pain for buying off the shelf - you can’t as an example buy branded pain killers or cough medecine - itsall behind the counter in pharmacies and a suprising amount has to be prescribed

The botanical gardens in Copenhagen is beautiful, they have a butterfly house you can walk through and see incredible butterflies. Malmö has a lovely big park and not to far from there is a pier with a nice bar / restaurant at the end of it.

"hellerup has a great interactive museum , great for kids"

This has to be the Experimentarium Science Museum, which is a brilliant place for kids and adults:

The Aquarium in Copenhagen is great.

Meridas · 01/04/2026 13:52

The Lego shop is underwhelming, the London one is much bigger and better!

We went to the disgusting food museum in Malmo was a fun way to spend an hour. If you are brave you can try a number of ‘delicacies’ at the end.

I nearly threw up just walking round so only tried a couple…..

there was a nice little old town area there as well - they had a sort of art collective shop with different bits.

Crikeyalmighty · 01/04/2026 16:55

@snowymarbles yes the area round the main square in Malmo is nice - we stayed at a terrific hotel there a few times. Theresa great record shop come rock cafe on the square- it’s huge- my H spent many an hour in there ( we work in music)

Experimentarium is great! Allow several hours and time to get there. They have a good cafe too.

Tivoli is super. Buy full day tickets, then set yourself up with a book/laptop in one of the restaurants or cafes and let your kids go round together. Popping back every so often and for lunch. (assuming they’re mature enough). One of the best days out my kids had at that age.

Planetarium is good too and in central Copenhagen.

Have you already booked accom? we found a great place for a family
