i dont fancy packing it in the case with all the clothes, can i take it on as hand luggage? or can you only do that if it duty free you buy in the airport?

and if its duty free, i doubt ill be abl to buy lambrusco at the airport, maybe asti.
is there a limit to how much you can buy?

yes i am a chav, drink asti and lambrusco but its the only stuff i like and im hoping when dd goes to bed me and dh can sit out on the balcony overlooking th sea and have a nice drink, he can buy beer there.

You cant take liquids over a certain amount through.
You'd be better off wrapping it in bubble wrap in your suitcase.

Oliveoil · 18/06/2008 14:56

do you take your own bacon too?

I can't understand travelling somewhere and not eating and drinking the local stuff

all part of a holiday imo

robinredbreastbirdie · 18/06/2008 14:59

oo ive tried it before and i dont like it.

izzybuzzy thanks for your helpful suggestion, do you know how much duty free you can buy at the airport?

Yes, you'd have to put it in you checked luggage, do you have enough spare weight?

How about cheapo white wine mixed with soda or lemonade?

LuLuBai · 18/06/2008 15:06

No you can't take it in handluggage - you can't take any volume of liquid through customs in these days of terror threats. My friend had large bottle of Chanel No 5 conviscated and I had to hand over a slightly less glamorous pot of Sudocrem.

You may find they stock something you like in the supermarkets in Mallorca as they cater pretty well for English tastes

Personally I'm with Olive Oil - I love trying out local produce (and that has included some really yucky stuff - but as OO says - that's part of the fun.)

If you like sweeter drinks try ordering a Ponche Caballero (I'd recommend having ice with it). It's more sweet and sticky than I would normally go for but it seems to go down quite nicely while watching the sun go down

robinredbreastbirdie · 18/06/2008 15:06

thank jeremy, yes i think ill do that as a back up plan,

does anyone know if you can buy asti in the duty free? and how much you can take?

I think it probably depends which airport you are flying from. There doesn't seem to be a single thing you can't buy at Gatwick these days (including wide screen televisions - duh!) but why not have a look at the BAA website as they control all the airport retail

robinredbreastbirdie · 18/06/2008 15:18

lulu ill look out for that, i think i only like those two drinks because its more ike drinking pop

You may be able to buy it on the plane but thats a risk you'd have to take.

I was in Majorca last month and I'm quite positive that I saw the cheap plonk there.

LuLuBai · 18/06/2008 15:21

Hmm - Ponche isn't fizzy so may not be your cup of tea. It's more of a liquer consistency.

Spain does lots of Cava - try asking for a sweeter one or choose a Rose Cava as that tends to be sweeter than white.

muggglewump · 18/06/2008 15:24

"I can't understand travelling somewhere and not eating and drinking the local stuff"

Last time I went abroad I took Twinings Earl Grey tea bags and marmite
In my defence it was a 10 week trip to Indonesia!

robinredbreastbirdie · 18/06/2008 15:53

lulu thts a great idea about the rose cava, although i will prob get it in the shop and drink it on the balcony.

nervousal · 18/06/2008 15:56

if you onlyh like it because it tastes of pop why don't you drink pop???

policywonk · 18/06/2008 16:00

I love Lambrusco Rosso for the same reasons I think, rrbb.

Nervousal - because you can get a bit tipsy on Lambrusco.

robinredbreastbirdie · 18/06/2008 16:13

yes exactly pw,
its a nice mellow relaxed tiddly feeling rather than full on drunk imo

I can't say I have ever seen it in Duty Free (not that I have ever looked mind you!). I think the maximum you can take is 1 litre.

You won't be able to take it through as hand lugguage and if you try it will be confiscated.

When we went last month we were given a shot of this stuff at a tapas bar. Apparently its meant to aid digestion.

I thought I was going to die after drinking it.

robinredbreastbirdie · 18/06/2008 17:00

cant really believe you care so much, maybe you need to get a life
