Gran Canaria tips with teens and a toddler

We’re heading to Gran Canaria for the first time and I’d love some tips for things to do/ day trips and places to eat.
We’re staying in Puerto Mogan
We could potentially hire a car for a couple of days if needed- unsure how necessary this is though?

Pre littlest one we did a lot of travelling and staying in villas etc, but this time for the first time we’ve opted for somewhere with a shared pool etc. I still want to get out and see the island though. We love unique places and experiences
Girls are aged 19, 16 and 18 months - so it’s hard to find things that will accommodate everyone! Any tips welcome TIA ☺️

Public bus service is ridiculously easy and very good - even I worked it out 🤣

Mogan is beautiful!

we did this which was fabulous. The boat is the owners home and it was a brilliant morning excursion.

Came back from there a few weeks ago, it was lovely. The dunes at Masoslomas would be worth a visit and there’s so many different boat trips or ferries to neighbouring resorts. You’ll have a fantastic time.

we liked I love Mogan for fish but it was pricey. Amazonian was nice too next to the beach. Cocktails at Sarita if your little one will be in a pushchair and there’s an Indian opposite which was busy. Tbh we never had a crap meal which was fantastic

There's some kind of camel park near there which does 'safaris'. The island interior is stunning if you just want to drive around, stop for views and find a village with a cafe for ice-cream. I'm not sure it's easy to please everyone with that age range!

There is a fantastic aquarium in Gran Canaria that my dh and I absolutely loved. Huge huge displays with sharks and disabled sea turtles that couldn’t survive in the sea. There is also a shopping arcade very close.

The hire car is v v cheap tbf. The bus is also cheap tho if u dont fancy driving.
Get the bus to Amadores for a lovely beach for swimming and paddling and an icecream. Its 1.50 on the bus over from puerto mogan.
Also head to the mogan mall in puerto rico for lovely shops and my favourite coffee shop in the world with the best cakes ever. Underground parking if u have a car.
U can also get the ferry over and back which is a nice day trip too.
Down the front of mogan there are loads of eatieries. The beach side is more reasonable and relaxed than the marina side but ive not have a bad meal and ive been to pdm 6 times now.
I absolutley love the place.

If you are planning on hiring a car, please take your own car seat with you as hired ones may not meet the necessary safety standards or may have previously been in an accident or dropped.

I love Mogan, we’ve been there four times. I like how the restaurants are all independents, there are no chains. Prices are probably higher than in many other resorts but the overall standard is very high. I can recommend Asia House for Far Eastern cuisine, it’s relatively inexpensive by Mogan standards and has a big range of vegetarian options. Nice staff, too. Casa Mia is a tiny Italian place in a little side street so you will have to book. I can recommend the Provolone shared starter, it’s a remarkable dish. The Mogan cats are a highlight for me, every block seems to have a resident cat who’s fed by restaurant staff and who enjoys being fussed about with by passers by. Look out for this one, she’s my favourite. She’s much friendlier than her stern-looking face suggests!

This place. We love it. We make a point of going. We are going back for our 7th mogan trip in September.

I love Puerto de Mogán though usually stay in Puerto Rico. Take the boat to PR for a day trip. The boats are really regular. In PR there’s a lovely beach , shopping centre, crazy golf and angry birds. I’d also recommend amadores beach and the water park (aqua land).

We stayed in Puerto Mogán last year and it’s such a nice base, super chill but still enough going on. With your mix of ages I’d probably get a car for at least 1,2 days, just gives you way more flexibility without overdoing it.
One easy trip we liked was heading into the mountains, around Tejeda. The drive itself is beautiful and you can stop whenever, short walks, viewpoints, little cafés. It felt like a completely different island compared to the coast. With my sister's toddler we just kept it flexible and didn’t plan anything too long.
For beaches, Amadores is really good with kids, calm water and easy setup. Puerto Mogán beach is nice too but smaller.
We also looked at doing a boat day from Mogán, even just a short one along the coast, which worked well because no long transfers. I remember checking some ideas here just to get a feel for nearby spots and options.
Food-wise, Mogán has loads of easy options by the marina, so we mostly kept dinners local and relaxed.
