Best Paris neighbourhood for city break with cafés and good transport links

This board really helped me book my Rome break last year (hence username!). Looking at a city break to Paris, which area should I book that has good links to the main attractions but also gives us pretty Parisian streets with local cafes/ bakeries etc… we like living like a local rather than being tourists!

Apartment recommendations encouraged. 2 adults/ 2 teenagers (17/14).

We stayed in Trastevere in Rome following recommendations here last year and it was perfect! What are would be equivalent in Paris?

Are you taking the Eurostar?

We stayed in a nice neighbourhood between Gare du Nord and the foot of the Butte de Montmartre last year. 15 minutes walk from GdN, 15 minutes up to the touristiness of Montmartre, but in a buzzy, non touristy neighbourhood itself. Just trying to remember the name of the rue....

Rue de Clignancourt! It was the Hotel Montmartre St Pierre, a perfectly acceptable mid price Best Western. View of Sacre Coeur from the balcony. Nice funky cocktail bar on the opposite corner. Some interesting, hip looking places to eat up the road. 5 minutes walk from the Haberdashery Zone (IYKYK 😆)

Watching!

We stayed in Montrogueil recently - it was a busy, buzzy neighbourhood and the Rue de Montrogeuil is the 'food centre' of Paris apparently. Load of cafes, bars and local produce neaby - we were spoilt for choice. It's also an easy walk to Notre Dame and the Westfield Les Halles which the teenagers loved.

We stayed in the 6th arrondissement and loved it. Felt very safe and close enough to everything but didn't feel too touristy! Our hotel had a balcony with an amazing view of the Eiffel Tower

Near Canal St Martin was a hit with teens. When the weather is good younger Parisians hang out on the banks with picnics/drinks and there are quite a few cafes and bars. My teens like walking/getting lost and discovering places so we walked virtually everywhere. We had seen the big stuff on previous visits but this time we did book for the Catacombs which are v good/unusual as was mouching round markets

We stayed there @Toomuchleopard Absolutely perfect and easy to get to from Gare du Nord. So many great restaurants and excellent connections.

Its also an easy short walk from Chatales Des Halles where you can get the train to Charles de Gaulle and Orly airports

And not far from Notre Dame and the Seine.

@SaffyWall We stayed there on one trip - an apartment but before AirB&B days when you really were living like a local. I still have fond memories of lying in bed listening to a neighbour play a piano beautifully!

How about somewhere near rue Mouffetard? (5th arrondissement).

Canal St Martin feels like an area of Paris where real people live - lots of cafes, boulangeries and neighbourhood restaurants too.

5 minutes walk from the Haberdashery Zone (IYKYK 😆)

I know that area well!

The thing about Paris, and indeed other European cities, is that many people live throughout the city centre and so pretty much everywhere is someone's local neighbourhood, with bistros, bakeries, supermarkets etc that locals use.
