All advice welcomed. We’re looking at two adults for two weeks. Would be great to see the big 5 but esp want to see giraffes in their natural habitat.

These are add ons to the usual semi permanent camp offering. You can get this but you rather indicated you set up
the tent, and did diy, which you didn’t. That’s what you cannot do. Fly camping is on offer from various camps in Kenya and on walking safaris. They are wholly organised with licences. It looks like your mess tent is in the background. Lodges in remote areas give the same exclusivity in terms of not seeing other vehicles.

No that’s our other tent. 2 x 2 person.

No DIY would be a step too far. We weren’t linked to a camp, but whatever, it was wild enough for us.

I loved my safaris. Both Kenya and Tanzania.

Someone has already mentioned Kruger in South Africa. There are very exclusive game parks around the edge of Kruger such as https://sabisandsgamereserve.com/?msclkid=e161f0243115104b42e599edaf9309c6
You could do a couple of nights there as special treat and then a few days in Kruger driving yourselves which is way cheaper. The posh resorts give you more of a guarantee of seeing the rarer spots as the rangers have walkie talkies and share with each other what is around. However I prefer the self drive experience as I like to find the animals myself!!

@vdbfamily You don’t have to stay in a posh resort! They are nowhere near as nice as small bush camps. I have stayed at larger lodges (not really a resort!) but never would now. The very small lodges know their area and are not joining in with 50 other vehicles around a lion or two. But - you really must know where to go for a better experience.
