Who has been to Tarragona in Spain? If that's you, tell me all about it!

Just the two of us thinking of going in September. Fly into Reus, go to Barcelona for the day on the train (been before), and travel to various towns along the coast if we have the energy!

Is it a nice town/city to base ourselves in do you think? I am interested in Roman history so that's why I'm looking there. Thank you.

I enjoyed the Roman ruins, NB I think they are closed on Mondays (?). It was a really nice place and the historical sites were excellent, there's quite a few and you can get maps which give you an order to follow

I went to Tarragona quite a few years ago and had an absolutely lovely time. The old town is pretty, the ruins are great to see and food is great it’s well worth a few days.

Really nice town, very few tourists and lots to see. Plus Barcelona and Sitges both very close by train. It's has a strongly Catalan identity, less diluted than in other provinces which means authentic food and lower prices! Learn a couple of greetings in Catalan if you want to get on with the locals.

Tarragona is nice has the ruins and as a pp said is proudly Catalonian, it is.a small city but easy to get around. We holiday in Costa Doranda so visit it often.

Thank you. I was looking at hotels and noticed the Catalan lingo, they used a term that I didn't know and it turned out to be breakfast! It wasn't desayuno anyway!

I usually try to get a few basics of the local language, so I'll definitely do that.

No firm plans yet, but September looking likely. I see there's a big festival San Tecla with the "castells" around then which could be interesting!

It’s nice all along that coast. Valencia is possibly a bit too far south for a visit but it’s a beautiful town.
