DH and I have 2 nights away, without children, in July, want HUGE bed, fantastic service, good location, where should we stay?

We have booked The Hoxton but although it looks lovely I'm at that stage of knackeredness where I am regularly fantasising about an enormous super king size bed, Egyptian cotton, 24 hour room service, utter peace, going to bed in the middle of the afternoon, visiting art galleries, going to the cinema and seeing 2 films in a row with dinner in between, etcetera - you get the picture.

The rooms at The Hoxton look too small and the beds are Queen sized, not king so I may donate it to my sister (cheap deal, paid for) but where can Dh and I go instead? We only seem to do this once a year so I can't bear to stay somewhere where the room is small, I want to loll about.

London would be fine, so would anywhere within 2 ish hours of there. Not completely in the middle of nowhere though due to need for aforementioned cinemas etc.

Don't mind paying a bit, prefer 5 star and would like to go somewhere where the service is fantastic. We liked One Aldwych but would quite like to try somewhere new.

TIA for any and all suggestions.

Have a look at the stripe room, or some of the rooms below that, they look bigger than the first few.

CountessDracula · 17/06/2008 20:12

how about Le Manoir
the rooms there are gorg
you would have to drive to the cinema tho

unknownrebelbang · 19/06/2008 21:14

Have you decided yet www?

gillybean2 · 01/07/2008 23:18

I second Le Manoir. Great bathrooms as well as bedrooms (each room is different so ring up and discuss what you want and what they have available). Wonderful gardens and food, I recommend afternoon tea! There's lots to do in nearby Oxford, museums, punting, lots of little shops to explore (second hand books, organic food cafes etc). I also recommend a day out in the village of Burford which isn't too far away. Assuming you can drag yourself away from the bed that is...

If cinema is your thing then High Wycome isn't too far away and has several big screens. If you don't mind smaller more intimate they show films at the Corn Exchange in Whitney (or they used to when I lived there. Has been a few years now minf you!)

Blimey, WWW, I was going to say to OP "oh, you need WWW, she is the queen of lovely hotels" and bugger me, it's you

(Were you having a bad day?)

Quattrocento · 01/07/2008 23:22

Le Manoir

It's a must. Tis fab - you won't forget it. The food is exquisite.

Actually I prefer it in the autumn - when you can have a lovely cozy log fire in your room.

gillybean2 · 01/07/2008 23:59

Looks like they are still showing films at the corn exchange!

The Dorchester is wonderful! I was treated to a night there last year for our wedding anniversary.

The bed was huge and soooooo comfortable. The pillows were the softest most snuggly I had ever slept on.

The room also had a massive bath which I had a long soak in. Everything about the room was just lovely.

We had a yummy breakfast the following morning too.

The thing I loved most was that we were never made to feel that we weren't "posh" enough to be there, if you know what I mean. The staff are all so friendly and helpful.

bossykate · 02/07/2008 08:00

I would second the HdV in Brighton .. or anywhere as they have the best beds IMO. Big and comfy and nice sheets. Plus lots to do in Brighton so a great weekend place.

We stayed at County Hall (Marriot nr the London eye) some time agao and the bed was enormous!!!! But we didn't eat there so no idea about food.

WideWebWitch · 03/07/2008 20:05

Ooh, hadn't seen these new messages. Welllll, we are sticking with The Hoxton as dh persuaded me that we'd paid for it and how bad could it be? I am preparing myself to not be impressed and not particularly like it so if it's even halfway decent it'll be a pleasant surprise!

But these suggestions are great and I love drooling over hotel sites so will go and look at some of them, thank you.

Bk to you too!
