Hi all

im going in circles and could do with some recommendations please!

we’ve done plenty of haven/pardkean/Butlins breaks in the past so would like to do something different this year.

happy to spend a week in one place or break up into a few premier inns etc around different parts of the country. I like to be out and about so attractions/things to do are what I’m looking for.

children are 3, 8, 13

The Isle of Man is pretty cool but not strictly UK. (For the pedants, not the UK at all). There are steam railways, horse drawn trams, Glen's, beautiful beaches.

We had some of our best holidays to North Yorkshire. And Northern Ireland.

We've always fancied the northumberland coast too.

Weymouth
Its been a while since we’ve been but found it had a traditional seaside vibe but well looked after with some nice restaurants and art galleries.
lots of days out for children including a nice Sea life centre. Nearby is a swan sanctuary and Monkey World.

Woolacombe. The older two can do surf lessons and there is loads to do around there, tunnels beaches at Ilfracombe etc

North Norfolk has lots of sandy beaches and things to do.
A trip to Fakenham glass to do some glass blowing.
There’s also a safari trip around Holkham hall that’s really interesting.

We based ourselves in Wiltshire last October half term and then did days out to Longleat, Bath, Stone Henge and Cotswold Wildelife Park.

Cotswold Water Park could be another area to stay with lots going in, the De Verne hotel was reasonable when we went and had family room set ups.

Aviemore

loads to do such as Landmark and the Highland wildlife park and if you go in the second half of August the Scottish schools will be back and it will be quieter

We’re going to Camp Bestival (in July this year) which is brilliant for all ages of kids.
Will combine it with exploring Devon for a week (we’re from North Yorkshire)

Northumberland, all of it!

MiddleAgedDread · 11/03/2026 07:40

Which part of the country are you starting from and how far are you willing to drive?

Forgottenmyphone · 11/03/2026 08:12

Bluestone in Pembrokeshire is great for those ages and there are lots of family-friendly day trips nearby, including some of Pembrokeshire’s best beaches.

Thank you everyone :) lots to look at!

I am in South Yorkshire we don’t mind travelling so anywhere is fair game! Ideally in trying to keep under £1k

Aviemore is always a good option with kids if you're into outdoor activities (although the 3yr old might limit those opportunities).
I'd also throw the Stirling area into the mix to save you some driving time- it puts you within easy reach of Edinburgh and Glasgow for museums and attractions. The castle is worth a visit. There's Blair Drummond safari park down the road and you're within shooting distance of Loch Lomond and the Queen Elizabeth forest. There's the Falkirk Wheel and Kelpies nearby too. Places like Callander are nearby which have a very highland sort of feel.
Or North Wales for castles and beaches.

We love the New Forest. Lots of lovely villages to explore, great bike/walking trails, close to lovely beaches & the wild horses are amazing.
