Turkey - August average hotel, or October more premium hotel.

Hi all, looking ahead to 2027 and want to do an AI holiday to Turkey next year, with teens so one with lots of activities, ideally water park etc.

I’ve been looking at the Rixos chain due to the theme park, I’m really drawn to the Premium Belek but could only really afford to do that in October half term, but was keen for a hot August holiday (I know it’s VERY hot!) Rixos Park Belek or Downtown Antalya are in budget instead but obviously don’t look as nice. So I suppose my questions are:

  1. Is October still a good time to visit Turkey? (Would be end of the month) is it still hot (have googled but would like some anecdata!)
  2. Would you delay until October for a nicer hotel? I would really rather go in August when we’re more in the mood for a summer holiday, I quite like autumn so don’t really feel the need to get away then and the fact it’s sickness season worries me.

Only holiday of the year next so another reason I’d prefer it to be middle of the year!

Or any other hotel recommendations very welcome!

I wouldn't go to Turkey in August for any hotel really, as it would be hellishly hot.
I think October is a great time of year to get away. Prices are much better. The sea is still warm, crowds have gone away and I've generally been lucky with the weather.
I've not been to Turkey but when I do, it would be May or October.

I went late June and it was too hot to breathe. October for me

Just be careful to check water parks are still open during half term. Lots of places in turkey reduce operations before the UK October holiday

Thank you, my husband is in the Middle East first half of the year so his view is he’ll be acclimatised, kids think they want it as hot as they can get, part of me is wanting to call all their bluff but it’s an expensive thing to do 😂

Another back up idea I have is a cruise in the summer (higher up in Europe) we’ve done a couple now but thinking teens would prefer an AI resort with lots to do for the next holiday, Turkey seem to have the best hotels for this.

We have been in October twice, temp of around 20 - 25 in the daytime, sea was warm, pools are cooler. Many places don't heat the pools as they close in November. Night time is much cooler, we needed jumpers/light jackets for sitting outside.

This suited us, the summer temps in Turkey would be much too hot for me.

We went to Turkey in October last year. The week before we went was torrential rain, as was the week after. We were very lucky. Pools were freezing but was warm during the day with a slight chill at night.

Eek this is quite off putting…I’d be devastated if it rained.

Yep. We went to TUI BLUE Tropical In Sarigerme. The hotel was great, food was amazing but there would have been nothing to do if raining. I'd recommend you find a place with things to do nearby. There wasn't much to do in Sarigerme unless you wanted to shop for fake things.

Went to Turkey October last year and it rained 6/10 days, even when it wasn’t raining was highs of 25 degrees and the pools were freezing. I’d go for August!

Thanks all, I hadn’t realised how changeable the weather was in October, now wondering if I’d be better off looking for something less hot in August.

August definitely, more of a buzzy vibe, not the end of the season feel and not cold pools.

Late August is a bit cooler.

I’ve considered turkey in April and October but it’s too changeable so I go to canaries instead as more reliable.

minipie · 01/03/2026 13:57

We went in late Oct and had a wonderful week (mid to high 20s and warm sea) but this is on the lucky end I believe. Last year wasn’t so good. 2027 who knows?

If I was going in August, with teens or older kids, personally I would choose a gulet holiday as you are on a boat and in and out of the water the entire time. Choose an air con one obviously (lots have ac I think). You also get to see some different places along the coast like a mini cruise but in a much smaller more authentic boat.

How were the pools?

minipie · 01/03/2026 23:11

Cold!! Sea was much warmer. Same in Cyprus a few years previously - sea warmer than pool.

Turkey was warmer than Cyprus for us but that may have been just the weather the year we went to each.

patate10 · 02/03/2026 11:21

We have done Turkey in Oct half term three years in a row. 2 amazing weather weeks and one (last year) more changeable. I was (until this weekend) looking for Egypt for this years October half term as temps are higher there. Now holding off for a bit.

minipie · 02/03/2026 11:26

Same patate10!

Depending what you and your teens like to do, I wouldn't actually be too put off by the very hot weather in August. In my opinion, tourist resorts and activities in Turkey are better set up for dealing with the heat than many other holiday destinations. For example, in my experience water parks, boat trips etc in Turkey have plenty of areas with shade and many of the private beaches (usually no entry fee, just pay for food and drink) have lots of shady areas and even covered areas with fans/water spray to sit if it gets too hot. It is definitely too hot for walking far, but taxis are easy and cheap. There are also loads of excursions available locally if your hotel doesn't have quite as many activities for teens as the more expensive one and they are much cheaper than spain etc.
It is definitely very hot in August but my teens and I enjoy it. As a very, very pale skinned red head I have managed beach days, pool days, full day boat trips, countryside/historic excursions etc very comfortably.
