We have booked to stay in this Italian town in July. Myself, husband and son in his early teens. Anyone been and got ideas of things to do and places to go whilst here? We will be going to pompeii but that’s all up now!

I stayed there about 30 years ago with school. Remember some odd things about it but it’ll be out of date anyway. Take the train to Sorrento (stayed there more recently) - a lovely town, and also Naples. And maybe spend a day travelling along the Amalfi Coast. Enjoy! It’s one of my favourite parts of the world.

It’s on the train line, so easy to get to Naples, Pompeii and Sorrento. Likely very busy in July so my tip would be to prebook your Pompeii tickets. We went in late September and the queues were crazy. With prebooked we walked straight in.

As other PPs say you’ll be on the Circumversuviana train line so you can catch the train up to Naples, Herculaneum, Pompeii & Vesuvius & down to Sorrento. From Sorrento you can get boats/ferries to Capri, or down the coast. Or the bus down Amalfi Coast to Positano, Amalfi etc. From Amalfi you can catch another bus up into the mountains to Ravello.
Naples is a very lively city, has the Archeological Museum as well as lots of other places of interest.
Pompeii & Herculaneum are amazing & immersive.
Vesuvius (not been myself) is meant to be an experience.
Sorrento is quite touristy but a great transport hub.

Yes! DH & I stayed there for 5 nights with our 3 DSs at Easter about 5 years ago. Chose it because it was on the train line but cheaper than Sorrento. I really liked the town…it felt really Italian and not quite as touristy as surrounding places. We did day trips to Pompeii, Vesusius & Sorrento, The main thing I remember is the pizza university with the metre long pizzas. My kids still talk about them.
