It not a big deal and none of the airlines in your poll are better or worse than the others, they all manage to transport people safely from A to B.

I was in a plane that got struck by lightning once. British Airways I think it was.
😂

<that's buggered up the poll, hasn't it?>

Same here but it was struck twice! Also BA.

Well Jet2 must the safest airline now as we all know lightning never strikes twice!

🤣

Do you have to pay extra to be struck by lightning on Ryanair?

Class comment 🤣🤣

Nothing beats a Jet2 holiday Grin

At least you’ve saved £50 per person. Could have spent that extra with tui and still been hit 😆

whynotwhatknot · 14/02/2026 13:41

didnt realise you had to emergncy land-was it damaged

notimagain · 14/02/2026 14:34

IMHO if the result was an emergency landing (and so all the prep that goes with it) the aircraft would have had to have suffered or have been suspected of suffered something really rare but nasty such as major radome (aircraft nose) damage....

That can happen around thunderstorms but it's more often down to hail stones rather than a lightning strike...

Be interesting to hear more.

I’ve been in two planes struck by lightning. Once I saw it come down the aisle and leave over a wing. Amazing! The passed a bottle of brandy round after that! Thank you BA.

What is the point of the poll?

I put "Jet2 emergency landing Mallorca lightning" into Google and the only relevant hit was this thread. 🤔

So call me an old curmudgeon, but in the absence of a date and flight number from OP, I'm assuming that the purpose of the poll is to elicit publishable data ("A survey of Mums showed that they prefer TUI to Jet2 by a 2-to-1 margin!!!!!!!") and the story has been made up to get publicity for that.

notimagain · 16/02/2026 15:27

You could well be right.

Nothing has come up on either of the main (crowd sourced) internet sites that go looking for and then tabulate incidents - FWIW that's ASN and AvHerald, and no mention on the well known pilot rumour site..

It's looking like at most this was the sort common or garden lightning strike that a few around here have experienced...more than once in some cases..🤐
