Madeira in August - too hot or ok?

We’re looking for a summer holiday in early August, and we really want somewhere relaxing but not toooo hot. Would generally prefer mid 20’s, and when it gets above 25/26 ish we can start to find it a bit much!

I’ve heard that Madeira, Funchal, is great weather in August and although it’s more like 24-30 degrees, there’s a cooling breeze. Anyone with experience of going there in jul/August offer advice?

Hi!

I've been to Madeira for the last two years in August. The first year it was very pleasant - last year it got unbearably hot! It can be quite cloudy which feels like it almost keeps the heat in at times if that makes sense!

However, it really depends whereabouts on the island you stay. We stayed in Funchal which was hot, but visited the North West of the island which was cooler. In fact when we visited Fanal Forest, you couldn't see your hand in front of you and eveyone was getting about in North Face jackets!

What I will say is it is the most stunning island and I would not hesitate to return.

Thanks @Claretmum - we’d probably stay in Funchal to make all the “pottering to loads of restaurants” option easiest 😆. But I did hear that’s the warmest area too. I think we’d have to plan to take the days easy and retreat to hotel in the middle of the day. Hmm.

Also considering Bergen in Norway, and other Baltic coast stuff - we are all over the place with ideas and don’t really know what we want other than perfect temperatures, relaxing, interesting, great food, and the moon on a stick…

We were there in July last year and the temperature was lovely around 23/24 degrees. Downtown Funchal can get hot when walking around but there’s nearly always a nice breeze off the sea. If you are keen on restaurants I would book ahead as the best ones get full quickly and you will be stuck with the tourist traps.

If you're thinking about the Baltic coast what about the Gdansk area? The city is beautiful and there would be lots of interest for 2-3 days.

Then there's the Sopot area and Hel peninsular which is very wellness/nature focussed. Public transport is great for getting around and the weather should be very pleasant but not hot hot. All very affordable so likely to be significantly cheaper than Bergen which might be a consideration unless you're millionaires.
