Wont bore everyone with my story but in short we went away and had a dreadful time. In essence

  1. we had two flood in our accomadation on 2 days
  2. No hot water for 2 days
  3. A variety of workmen trapsing in and out to fix it - meaning we could nap in the day
  4. a room with damp and no working phone
  5. Childcare we had booked was rubbish - the staff kept saying that too many people had boojed and too busy for them - so our kids hardly wen to the club

overall not a great holiday as planned . I called to compalin when we got back. Hae had a letter back soaying sorry and heres a £200 voucher of the cost of your next hoiday. As we have lost confidence we are not going to go with them again. We were hoping for money back for a few days out instead.

so doesanyone know if i should write back or just leave it? feel gutted as we paid 2k for the break anf feel so very cheated.

thanks for reading.

You have to reject the voucher , if you don't you'll be deemed to have accepted it in comepnsation . Decide what you want and on what basis such as loss of free enjoyment of accommodation, not sure if you'd get anywhere re: childcare unless it had been specifically prebooked and confirmed (it well may be listed as a faciltiy which is n't guaranteed and they have certain staff ratios for different age groups). Threaten Small Claims court, enclose photos and copies of any reports you made in resort especially to their rep. You would need to have given the rep a chance to rectify the issues you raised whilst still there.

This is what ABTA says

Sounds to me that you should get some kind of refund.

Keep on complaining. I was a holiday rep/resort manager for years and I was amazed at the compensation given to people who I remembered as having a fab time, taking us out for a thank you meal etc etc at the end pf their stay. back home and they complained about all these non existant things and got what they wanted. Tour operators will try and fob you off with as little as poss so do as Lizs says and keep at it. It is worth it in the end. Don't accept anything you are not happy with and you want cash not vouchers. We were always told to offer wine in resort - cheap but effective - they had accepted that as 'compensation' and it was worth about 50p.

feel happy now - wasnt sure if i was loosing the plot sleep depivation and all that can make you see things in all sorts of funny ways!

So what do you think is reasonable i feel we lost half of our holiday and would like half cash not voucher back as we would liek to go on a few days out.

I travelled with Virgin to new york last year, everything was fine apart from on our return flight. We checked in at the airport to be told our flight was over booked and they would 'sort something out'.
we were put on a flight 4 hours later than the one we booked which we thought would be ok as we had a connecting flight at heathrow to get us home so we would just make it. Got boarded on the plane and sat on the plane for...5 hours, without moving, there was a fault with the plane
By the time it was fixed the crew were ot of hours so couldnt fly and we had to wait at jfk airport until they could find a crew. I had my then 9 month old ds1 with me and was running out of food and nappies for him, was told its just tough basically.
Anyway after kicking up a fuss they brought me 1 nappy and 1 jar of food
Anyway, we eventually got to heathrow 19 hours late, had to wait overnight in heathrow airport u ntil the british airways staff came in to see if they could transfer our flight which they did. Got back home 23 hours late
I complained to virgin who offered me £250 in virgin vouchers, it took 3 months of pursuing but we eventually got about £800 back from a trip that cost £3000.
I would definatley refuse the voucher and keep on at them, bt i dont think you'll get half the cost back.
I used to work in a travel agents and that only happens in extreme circumstances iirc
