No idea.

Sorry. Surely google is your friend here....? Oktober Fest. There you go.

A million years ago we were travelling around Europe by car & largely camping.but the best option we found was going with a company that included everything (tents/meals/transfers/parking) it was so nice to just enjoy it without worrying about our tent getting trashed, transport to/from the Oktoberfest, meals... they had a big area within the campsite that had a bar etc. frequent shuttle busses to the OF.

but as I say, this was a million years ago.

the second time I went I went with my brother & his gf. Air BnB, walked to OF. Least said. Soonest mended.

Hope you have a brilliant time!!

Thanks for your help. Google is my friend but as there are so many tents personal experiences would be nice to hear about. Thought that was what the holiday boards were for but hey ho.

Don’t go, it’s mayhem, expensive as hell and utterly crowded,

Last year had over 50 sexual attacks incl rape, over 200 great bodily harm attacks, they closed it for a day due to a bomb alert.

I know some people who go because of work events but they wouldn’t do it privately.

My advice as someone married to a man from Munich and who visits often don't do it
Munich is great, the beer festivals you can find in many areas of Bavaria are great but OF is awful, many Munchners avoid the city in that period if possible

Tickets for what? Oktoberfest entry and tents are free (although they might be full) unless things have changed since I lived in Munich.

The tent tables often need booking these days, but there are always outdoor seats. HofBrauHaus tent will be full of drunken 20 somethings on bus tours and is best avoided. Tuesday is family day and more pleasant, and the rides are cheaper. Friday and Saturdays are wild.
Accommodation wise you are late booking. Most places will be booked up a year in advance. Try out on the end of the U4 or U5 lines.

Maybe have a look at the other threads on the holiday board and you’ll get the idea … posters ask for help and ideas and other posters provide advice. Generally personal advice based on their own experience which a lot of people value. 🙄

Thanks everyone it’s given food for thought. It was an idea for a 60th for a few couples. We looked at booking tables for the tents and there wasn’t any availability so that’s what I ment by tickets so possibly left it too late for that plus accommodation.

Resident of Munich here! Oktoberfest is expensive but we always have fun there, you have to do it right. Accommodation prices go through the roof but public transport links are good, so look towards the edge and even outside the city. Friends have stayed in Augsburg or other neighbouring cities before and then taken the train in.

You can go on the tent websites to get reservations but normally you are expected to reserve a whole table. On a weekday afternoon you have a much better chance of just turning up and getting a good spot. The Oide Wiesn (Old Wiesn) is more traditional and you have good chances of getting a seat. There are some tour guides who reserve tables, if you book with them then you’ll have a guaranteed spot and someone to help you navigate the madness! Beer gardens are great in good weather.

Don’t take big bags, they are not allowed. Pickpockets are rife so beware of that too, and caution with the beer - it is stronger than normal beer. Happy to let you know anything more you want to know! 🍻

Reservations not yet open for the Festzelt Tradition and Schützenliesl, two tents we really like.

Waitingfordoggo · 11/02/2026 21:11

Maybe not helpful as I have no knowledge of Munich or Oktoberfest, but if you would consider other areas and festivals, I can recommend the Cannstatter Volksfest in Stuttgart. I went with DH and a small group of friends for my 40th and had a really good time. Stuttgart was a nice city to spend time in, although to be honest we didn’t get a great deal of exploring done due to significant hangovers 😂

Literally millions attend each year and it’s spread over 2-3 weeks so unfortunately I would expect some crime as I’d expect at any major event but I’ve attended and I didn’t feel at all unsafe and considering how many visit it each year, in comparison the numbers of assaults are pretty low(Though obviously not low enough)

I loved it and I don’t drink at all. I would however, as suggested, avoid the tents that the Australians frequent so Hofbraü for definite and Löwenbräu though the latter can be fun.

Theres a good guide to the tents here and their feel.

If you have a Reddit account or can make one then there’s a dedicated Oktoberfest subreddit which is very helpful. (I was going to recommend the Toytown forum but I see that it no longer exists.)

honestly? don't do it.
It is too full, too expensive, and someone will be sick down your back.

Sorry.

Sorry.

No one has ever been sick down my back when there but then I wouldn’t go near Hofbräu-Festzelt.
