Cape Town & Where Else?

We’re going to Cape Town for our third time. We’ve done the wine region once before. Looking to explore a little further?

Never done a safari. Wondering about the beaches off Madagascar, Nosy Be?

Madagascar? Why fly there? Have you travelled along the Garden Route to Port Elizabeth?Addo elephant park is near there. Great places to stay on the way. What about driving to the Little Karoo?

The best animal viewing (in the wild and not rewilded farms) is Kruger or the concessions around Kruger. That’s a flight away though.

There’s also Kwazulu Natal. Usually accessed via Durban and you are flying past it! As a result, I’d do a lot more homework on what you can reach from Cape Town. I’ll bet there’s lots of places! Try the route to “Die Hel” if you want something different!

No idea why you would book to Cape Town if you want Madagascar?

Victoria Falls? Fly there from Cape Town. You’ll need to organise Zimbabwe visas before you go. We stayed here

Do a helicopter flight over the falls if you can. You’ll never forget it.

Hopefully we’re booking soon. Plan is Cape Town then Garden Route and a 2 day safari at the end.

Garden Route up to Port Elizabeth/Gqeberha and then fly to Kruger.

Simonstown! Wild African Penguins! Look up ‘Penguin Town’ on Netflix to see what it’s like.

Travel along the garden route and end at Addo Elephant Park.

@zamben Where have you been before? SA is a big country.

If you're bored of cape town, why go a third time? Obviously, i think it's impossible to be bored of cape town as I'm originally from there! Grin

Madagascar seems like a crazy idea - it's an entirely different country and the flights and hassle would be huge.

what have you done in cape town before? What do you like doing? I'm sure there are loads of things you haven't done (or could do again).
If you are interestedin winelands, have you tried all the key regions? Franchoek? Elgin? Stellenbosch? Constantia?

If you want to get out of cape town properly, going up the garden route is lovely. Knysna, Plettenberg Bay, Sedgefield, Wilderness etc. Or go inland and do Okavango Caves, Addo Elephant Park, or other game parks.

Or go up the west cost - Onrus, Langebaan etc.

Do you want gorgeous views and interesting landscape? Or sophisticated eating and drinking? Different options for different preferences.

If you're willing to fly - Game farms north of Joburg - Kruger Park, Pilanesberg etc. Or go to Natal (not in SA summer - horrible) for other game options or a different beach vibe. Or the Drakensberg Mountains for gorgeous beauty, beautiful walks etc.

Also Hermanus, Simonstown, Kalk Bay. Boulders Beach for Penguins.

District 6 Museum.

Have you hiked Lion's Head? my chldren are finally old enough and I can't wait to do that next time we're there.

I've been to Madagascar, and loved it. But tacking it on to a trip to Cape Town seems like a lot of hassle. Safari seems like the obvious add on and you have so much choice!

Wild card - I have previously tacked on a visit to Namibia to an SA visit. Lots of easy self-drive available and very straight forward.
