Hi all,

I’ve just booked a multi centre trip to Vietnam with DH, DD (22) and DS (16).

4 nights Hanoi
4 nights Danang
5 nights Hoi An.

Anyone been, any advice? Any must sees/do?

We’re going in July which I’ve been led to believe should be alright weather wise. Please don’t disabuse me of this notion 😂😂

I think 5 nights in Hoi Ann is tooooo long.
it’s very small, plus absolutely rammed with tourists now. 2-3 nights max I would recommend

We did a week or more in Hoi An: a fantastic day trip to My Son, another in an ‘Eco tour’ of the river and all the various fishing methods and a go on the little round basket boats. A cycle tour, Marble Mountain , and Ba Na Hills (which would have been nearer if we had done that from Hue, I think) . Plus relaxing on the beach and sea swimming.

Yeah by the time we get to Hoi An we’ll be ready for some chilling out, hotel has a beach so we’ll make the most of that. We’re not a family that needs to be ‘doing’ all the time.

That's we what thought. We've got a quite a busy itinerary so will be ready for a few days chilling on the beach by the time we get to Hoi An

So many great suggestions. We went for our honeymoon and I'd forgotten loads until reading these.

In hanoi, street food is amazing. You can get a spot on the street where each table has a hot plate and cook your own meat. Amazing. Train Street is also worth a visit. There are a couple of lovely bars and cafés where you can sit upstairs for a great view of the trains.

Hoi An was my favourite. The canal area was lovely at night and we sat for hours in bars just people watching. We had the best bhan mi ever in Hoi An. Wish I could remember the name of the place but there was lots of hype so you'll no doubt be able to find it. It was a tiny little local place. Also recommend a cooking class (also did one in Thailand and loved it). Our class included a river trip too and was great fun.

Da nang is definitely worth a visit but has a very different feel. Beach was gorgeous and we actually changed our plans to stay on there for more relaxation time rather than return to Hanoi. Our beach hotel was quite far from the restaurants, bars etc so we had to Uber each night but it was super cheap and worth it.

Vietnamese beer was also lovely. I'm not a beer fan but always enjoyed it there.
