if you are driving via Kelowna google and look up they Myra canyon trestle bridges. rent a bike and enjoy the flat trail with 3 tunnels and 12+ bridges to enjoy. the trail itself only takes a couple hours but well worth it.
Myra Canyon Bicycle Rental and Tours Inc.
if you go through Kamloops the Sandman Signature Hotel across from the Riverside park is nicely located (stroll through the park there is a riverside trail and you can check out the small but cute main street). Sun Peaks has some cool stuff in the summer Explore Hiking | Sun Peaks Resort
Friends have mentioned this activity in Revelstoke The Pipe Mountain Coaster | Revelstoke Mountain Resort | British Columbia, Canada
Banff has tons of info online

Myra Canyon Bicycle Rental and Tours Experience is Kelowna’s Number 1 tourist attraction. Great family activity to see something new

I like the burrito place in Revelstoke 😁
Spend time in Banff and Canmore for sure. Calgary is less interesting though it's getting better.
Plan well if you want to see lake Louise / Moraine Lake. You need the shuttle now, you can't just park there. Hiking is amazing throughout the area.
I don't know Kelowna at all . But it will depend what you like in terms of hiking, camping, whitewater rafting, etc. there's lots!

We did a great overnight canoe trip with these guys, based in Clearwater.

If you’re coming the Revy way, the Golden Skybridge is lots of fun. The ice cream shop in Golden was also good IIRC.

The spiral tunnels near Field are really interesting and, if you time it right, you can catch a train entering and leaving one of the tunnels at the same time. On your way from Kelowna you’ll also pass through Cragellachie, which is the home of “the last spike” .

My advice for Lake Louise is go really early and leave before the rest of the tourists arrive.

If the 11 year old will be 12 by the time of the trip, Canmore Cave tours are interesting.

Are you staying in hotels or RV’ing?

Dinosaurfossil · 02/02/2026 09:13

Thank you all. Most likely driving and staying in hotels/motels @MooseBeTimeForSnow

We stayed at Tyax Lodge - it’s a bit out of the way but would really recommend. Huge lake with kayaks, paddle boards etc. Think we did 3 nights. Also Vancouver Island, Whistler, Clearwater for rafting, Lake Louise, Lake Moraine, Jasper, Icefields Parkway etc. We did go to Kelowna but we did a Vancouver to Vancouver loop. I don’t think I would have bothered otherwise.

Lake Louise we stayed at Paradise Lodge. Quite rustic cabins. Was a few years ago so probably lots more options. I do remember being able to do lots of laundry!

I've been following this because we are planning Calgary to Vancouver this summer. About to press go on a booking and have found Canada Affair super helpful. One thing I didn't factor in is that some world cup games are being held in Vancouver in early July so best avoid it (unless that is why you are going, of course!).
