As the post says, we are looking to visit, 5 nights for the football World Cup, Niagara and city sights.
is the above a good base to stay? What is public transport like? Food and drink prices? Any tips gratefully accepted!

Great location! You can take the streetcar downtown or walk north to get on the subway to get you anywhere in the city. It’s also a short walk to High Park, which is just glorious in the summer.

Thank you! That’s so helpful.

Yeah very easy to get around. Where exactly are you staying? It's not considered the downtown or central and out west a bit so good to use as a base and the streetcars are fine.

Love High Park and echo this sentiment.

Top tip - go to the CN Tower for lunch. Enjoy the views and a meal and you won't have to wait in line or pay to go up as it's included.

Food and drink depends on your budget, what you want to eat, fast food vs fine dining so that isn't an easy question to answer. Portions are much bigger though so generally you won't need a starter and main unless you are hungry! Let us know your plans a bit better and we can advise.

You can take a train from Union (downtown Toronto near the lake) to Niagara so this could be a good alternative to taking a bus unless you are hiring a car. Not sure when the hovercraft is going to launch as that might be fun.

Also if you haven't been to Toronto before - the weather is like 100% accurate. Because it is land locked it is guaranteed weather. So if they say sunny it won't rain - very much unlike living in the UK!

Bear in mind that kids end school end of June so you may be into school holidays.

Roncesvalles is a good base for your plans. It’s a quieter neighborhood but still well connected to downtown Toronto by streetcar or the subway from Dundas West. You’ll also be right by High Park, which is lovely in June.
