We want to go to North Norfolk for 8 nights early July. Maybe stay in Norwich for 3 nights and then Sheringham or Cromer for 5 nights, but open to suggestions. We don't know the area at all so will go to where we can get to by bus and train. Would appreciate any advice and suggestions of places to go, things to see, etc. We are a couple in our 60's and enjoy short hikes, scenery, wild life, art galleries theatre and jazz. Many thanks

North Norfolk is beautiful. We travel by bus - pretty slow-going because of the roads, but lovely views. The area round Wells next the Sea, Brancaster, the Burnhams is great for walks. Art galleries, theatre and jazz, not so much, but they do sometimes do events at Holkham Hall.

Instead of Uber, Norfolk has Veezu. Which could get you anywhere.

Check out the coastHopper: From Sheringham, it can take you as far as Wells.
Sounds like you would enjoy F&C & generally wondering around Wells. In other direction, Mundesley is good for fossil hunting and crazy golf.

If you like short hikes, consider the coastal path from Cromer to Overstand. On the cliffs, from Henry Bloggs Museum, Head east towards the lighthouse & keep going for about 50 minutes total walking one way. The clifftop cafe in Overstrand is good & there are some art galleries to poke around in. On the beach in Cromer you can look for the Banksy art (pretty degraded now).

One of my fave walks starts close to Sheringham high school, into the park, definitely worth going up the viewing platform, then north down to the beach, and back into Sheringham for lunch. About 6 miles, dunno if that's too far for you. You could figure out the route I mean using OS Maps App, but I'll try to post a pic, too.

If you wait until September there's the 1940s weekend in Sheringham (there'd be plenty of jazz).

I have no idea about travel options as I have a car, but I've lived in Norfolk on and off for years, and always go back to horsey gap, Holkham Hall (always worth seeing if there's anything on here), Langham Glass (you can go and see live workshops, it's very cool), Happisburgh (pronounced haysborough) lighthouse, Fair haven Gardens (it's so beautiful and their plants are amazing, so jungly!), Walsingham Abbey and Creake Abbey, and trips on the north Norfolk railway (usually from Sheringham).

Would definitely recommend catching the bus from Sheringham to Weybourne and then walk back on the coastal path.

Coasthopper, the places @didwegotothesamewedding mentions, Burnham Market in particular.

Thanks for these. I'm compiling a list of possibilities. Any particular highlights for Norwich, or day trips from there?

Plenty to see in Norwich: 2 Cathedrals, Plantation Gardens, Castle Museum, market place.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 31/01/2026 20:48

Trains run to both Cromer and Sheringham from.
Norwich. Norwich is also a nice city to visit.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 31/01/2026 20:51

You can also visit Cambridge, Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft by train from Norwich.

CollieModdle · 31/01/2026 21:17

I would stay in Sheringham (you can get the train there from Norwich).

Use the coast hopper bus to explore the coast, Blakeney and Wells are lovely. Pick up another bus from Wells to get to Holkham Hall. You can walk sections of the coast path between villages and pick up the bus from the next spot.

You can take the bus to Morston for a ferry trip to see the seals on Blakeney Point. Google Blakeney Point Seal Trips , times change with the tide. I would check the weather forecast before booking as they are open boats.

Sheringham has the Little Theatre and a steam train which runs to just outside Holt. Cromer has a pier and a cinema, and a small Museum with the bones of the mammoth found on West Runton.

There is a tank / military museum , The Musselburgh Collection, at Weybourne.

The charm of North Norfolk is the villages and varied coastline, rather than ‘attractions’.

You can get a different bus from Sheringham to Holt, a lovely market town.

The best thing to do in Holkham is not the hall so much but the beach walk... head north on Lady Anne's drive and get out to the pine forest/beach/dunes.

I don't know so much what cafes are there besides the visitor centre, tbf.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. Very helpful
