Me, DH and DCs 17 and 19.
Our hotel is in Garda, the Regina Adelaide.
Never been to Italy as a family . Staying on bed and breakfast.
Can anyone recommend any restaurants…activities..days out.
We’d like to go to Verona and/or Venice.

Lucky you! We spent 10 days In Bardolino last summer. It was utterly fabulous! Best bits:

-Beautiful scenery
-Loads of folk having fabulous fun
-There are ducks everywhere!
-Cycling round the lake paths
-Strolling around the lake at sunset
-Folk enjoying the simple pleasure of an ice cream by the lake after dinner
-The amazing food and local wine
-The Italians are fabulous, welcoming hosts
-Paddleboarding round the lake and mooring at a lakeside cafe for lunch

I cannot imagine why I never visited Italy before. I am converted forever.

I was looking at this area thanks to suggestions. I think my DD will enjoy Gardaland as well. Where did you park yourself?

A hotel just round the lake from Bardolino. 10 minutes walk round the lake to town. I’d share, but I overshared on Insta and every fucker I know has booked it so I can’t go back!!!!!!!

Have the best time. I am booking for next year! We went mid-August. Yes, it was hot but you just throw yourself in the bloody enormous lake.

Meanwhile, this year Puglia if anyone has top tips.

I loved our holiday in Italy. We only went for a 4 day mini break, we stayed in Verona and caught the train to Lake Garda. Definitely planning on going back.

Well, how selfish of you! It’s ok I understand (but do feel free to private message and I promise I won’t share with anyone!!). I usually look for hotels via IG because Googling mainly just brings up bloody paid ads for Booking.com. I also do deep dives on Maps for areas I’m interested in. I’m a total nut case choosing hotels because I’m incredibly fussy. Plus we have a young teen DD who needs privacy so rooms have to be configured correctly with enough space for us (me).

I had a lovely stay at the Du Lac and Du Parc in Riva. Two outdoor pools and one indoor pool.

CombatBarbie · 12/02/2026 13:33

Maybe too far unless you have a car, we stayed in Sirmione which was beautiful

justgottadoit · 12/02/2026 15:08

Ooo, I fancy this trip too now!

It is spendy but looks so gorgeous.
It has a patisserie and a very bougie restaurant.
Yep, with teens we thought the pool was a must. If they get tired of sightseeing, they can chill out there…and not moan to us.

We were there (Maderno) last mid August and the weather was hot - 30s, but bearable. Quite a few thunderstorms to cool things off. We loved just mooching around the pretty towns and villages, drinking coffee with views of the lake. Took the ferry around quite a bit, visited Limone by local bus which I enjoyed, yes was busy, but charming.

From Maderno we took a walk up the Valle delle Cartiere where there were old paper making mills and the most amazing clear (very cold) river that the kids enjoyed paddling in. Took a picnic of fresh sandwiches and cakes from the local bakery and the hotel made us a flask of coffee. That was one of our very best days, there were lots more hikes that way we would have done if we'd been better prepared.

Ok I found these apartments via a blog of someone who went with teens. It’s walking distance to Garda town with a two bed apartment option which is really what we need. Thinking northern lake visits and activities first part while it’s hotter and busier and then southern lake activities and parks nearer Sept. You can get a boat Sirmione and walk to Bardolino. Think I’m going to go for it after spending many hours looking at hotels yesterday which are more expensive and only give DD a sofa bed in same room. Anyone been to this one?

You can stay a longer time and hire a car to drive around the countryside near Garda.
