Laid-back beach resort - Thailand early april

I have booked flights to Bangkok for 2 weeks in early April. Going solo (travelled solo lots so not nervous) and looking for a nice laid-back beach resort with some good food. I plan to do a 3/4 days in Bangkok and then just want to lie in the sun otherwise. Main criteria:

  • Looking for a resort that is easy-ish to get to from Bangkok (Samui and Phuket appeal due to the direct flight)
  • Nice local restaurants and bars (ideally some nice bars/restaurants on the beach)
  • Hotel 4 or 5 stars for max spend about £150 a night (ideally with a gym but could compromise on that)

Any suggestions for a resort or hotel please? Feeling completely overwhelmed with choice!

Khao lak is more relaxed than Phuket. Flight is to Phuket airport and then an hour and a half transfer.

We stayed at The Waters which was really great for what we wanted (an amazing pool and walking distance to the action) but I'm not sure would meet your criteria as it is not beachfront and only has one restaurant. It did have a gym and a swim up bar. We did not eat there other than breakfast (which was buffet and really good) as there were so many local food options. If you search Khao Lak in Facebook, there are several groups that could give you good advice on hotels which would fit your criteria.

Another vote for Khao Lak, I’m going myself in early April! Be warned it’s a very busy travel season so prices are high.

I’ve not been for a long time, but Surin in Phuket was really lovely

I have actually decided to book The Waters as it looks like there are loads of restaurants nearby and a few beach bars... Thanks for the recommendation! I had booked The Sentido Khao Lak initially but looks a little bit too far away from the town
