Malaga in February

Has anyone been to Malaga in February? What did you take to wear? Historically the weather is late teens for days and cool for at night!
We have always done the canaries, so never had a problem thinking about what to take!

I’m going too so watching with interest!

Bjorkdidit · 23/01/2026 09:37

It's variable so you need to be prepared for all eventualities.

Check the weather forecast the day before you go but expect to need a light waterproof and layers because quite often there will be showers but when the sun comes out it's t shirt weather.

MrsNathanDrake · 23/01/2026 09:41

We’re going next week! We regularly go to Seville in Jan or Feb so am pretty much taking the same stuff for Malaga. I find T-shirts generally fine for the day, but I always have a cardigan with me. Evenings can be chilly, so I normally have an extra layer plus a lightweight coat.

crumpetwithcheese · 23/01/2026 10:33

Watching with interest as me and DP spending 5 nights in Torremelinos (sp?) middle of March.

wandering if it’s best to just take dresses and a denim jacket with comfy Birkenstocks rather than beach shirts etc.. not too keen on light trousers..

My mum and dad went February last year and it was around 22 degrees with some cloud a couple of days..

BadSkiingMum · 23/01/2026 10:36

I have never been but would you be going for beaches or sightseeing at that time of year?

We’re going for the sightseeing. Definitely too cold for sea swimming imvho. We’re staying in the old town and also doing a trip up to Ronda one day.

Clearinguptheclutter · 23/01/2026 10:52

I think it could be anything from very pleasant to rainy and miserable. Hopefully the former.’

went one January and it was up in the teens and sunny and very pleasant to sit out (with a jacket)

Theothersideofforty · 23/01/2026 11:13

Thanks everyone, I will probably end up throwing abit of everything in! It looks very rainy at the moment!

We went to Malaga in Feb half term a few years ago and it was warm enough for a t-shirt in the middle of the day on at least of the days were there, but evenings were quite chilly. So take layers, plus a light coat/raincoat.

FrenchandSaunders · 23/01/2026 11:18

Me too! Weather looks like its improving. I'm taking layers and a rain coat. Only got hand luggage.

Anyone who has been who can recommend a lovely restaurant for a birthday celebration?

For a special occasion have a look at El Pimpi in Malaga. Make a reservation if it appeals. Famous place and full of fun, and great food right in the centre near the Cathedral.

Joining thread as I'll be there too! Fingers crossed for good weather.

FoxFeatures · 23/01/2026 12:06

Expect the locals to be in puffer jackets 😉

This place looks amazing- really near where we're staying and I definitely think we'll be paying a visit

7238SM · 23/01/2026 12:16

I too would take a few options- t-shirts, cardigan, light jacket.
One thing you'll notice is that Spanish tend to dress for the season, rather than the daily weather. So as its still 'winter' expect to see locals in winter coats, hats, scarves etc- even if its warm and you are just in shorts/t-shirt.

WildCountry · 23/01/2026 12:20

I’ve been in February but was climbing nearby. Some days it was thin trousers and a t shirt but mostly I needed a fleece or thin coat.

MissAmbrosia · 23/01/2026 12:39

El Pimpi is lovely! You can't reserve I think - you queue if it's busy. You can just walk in for a drink though. We went last Feb - quite warm during the day, jacket needed in the evening. Had one day of non-stop rain. There were people sat on the beach.

Looks like you can reserve, although they do take walk ins. We queued for a bit, but friends there recently were able to book. At least that's what they TOLD us! 😊

I was there once in Feb. one day was torrential rain, the next beautiful sun, but quite breezy… as you say, take a variety of clothes!

whirlyhead · 23/01/2026 13:45

I'm in Mallorca, and it's been the wetest winter I can remember so take a brolly! It's cold here at night but quite pleasant in the day (when it's not chucking it down). Spanish dress according to the calendar not the temperature, and as it's winter at the moment, they will invariably be in 10 layers of clothing even if it's warm!

ABeerInTheSunshineMakesMeHappy · 23/01/2026 17:35

Well at the moment the weather is not as good as it is some years!

I tend to take leggings, lightweight joggers, jeans plus T shirts, hoodies, a warmer long sleeve top plus sandals and trainers, also a light puffs jacket, light puffa gilet (they pack into little bags) plus a thin packable waterproof. I also take a pair of shorts just in case. Most years I get to wear sandals most days with leggings/thin trousers and just a T shirt during the afternoon. My shorts also normally get an outing, although one year we had torrential rain for 4 days solid. No shorts that year! If I’m cold I put the leggings under the thin joggers to make them warmer.

You definitely need to check the weather just before you go though.

FunnyOrca · 23/01/2026 18:52

I hate the heat!

We went last year and were quite comfortable in jeans, t-shirts/long sleeves, skirts or dress with 40 denier tights. We needed jumpers and spring/autumn coat for after sunset. The locals however were wearing puffers and gloves! The high was 16-19 while we were there.

ABeerInTheSunshineMakesMeHappy · 23/01/2026 22:18

And when you are checking the weather, it’s worth using more than one source as I’ve just noticed that the forecast on the Met Office App is a lot better than on the BBC!

Theothersideofforty · 24/01/2026 17:17

I’ll go with the best weather app!! I suppose it’s just a pack the day before kind of holiday!
we are there when the carnival is on , so looking forward to that!
