Hoping to take dd for her second birthday, can I please have your tips for the cheapest ways to go, and any tips for going with toddler that age and managing your schedule with travel and naps and getting round everything

Are you going for the day? We stayed over in the hotel, well it was woodland themed lodge type things. Quite basic but pleasant enough. The park itself isn’t that big and while we did go back the second day, we didn’t stay for long. CBeebies land area was very quiet. We went on a September weekend. Had a good time but not in a rush to go back (I think we ruined it by doing Disneyland in the summer!). Enjoy 😊

Lightsandrainbows · 21/01/2026 21:48

I was going to do a hotel for two nights? Is that too much then?
dd doesn’t sleep in the car and still has a nap in the middle of the day, so I thought we may need another day to juggle everything.
you’ve made me second guess it though as it’s about £370 plus whatever we spend there, and if it’s a bit underwhelming it’s maybe not worth it

Do you mean getting around everything in CBeebies land, or Alton towers itself? CBeebies land is tiny. There are a handful of rides that just go round in a circle. A stage that does the odd show. And a play area warehouse thing. I actually went a second time thinking we just have missed something, but no. Alton towers itself is huge and there will be nothing for you with a baby. A very expensive day out, for not a lot! Thomasland in Drayton Manor is much better in my opinion. Lots of rides that are all different.

Lightsandrainbows · 21/01/2026 21:54

Just CBeebies
i saw you can do just CBeebies land apparently, so it’s a bit cheaper. Maybe I misunderstood though. I’ll have more of a look at it, I think my tik tok algorithm is just tricking me, I’m getting lots of influencers talking about how amazing it is so I thought it was at least a decent size.

So sometimes in the winter eg Feb half term they may just open CBeebies land on its own but this is only occasionally as they alternate different areas.

Don't forget the hotel does not include admission to the park normally unless a special package.

I have been with toddlers and it was enough on its own for them!

Clementine12 · 21/01/2026 21:57

This is the extent of it. To be fair, I think there are two more rides than when we went! But still not a lot

Cbeebies land

The waterpark is pretty good though, so if you stayed in that hotel you do CBeebies land in an afternoon and the waterpark the next morning

IndieRocknRoll · 21/01/2026 22:02

A day in CBeebies land and one night at the hotel is plenty. You could always do splash landings the second day if your little one likes water.

PardonMe3 · 21/01/2026 22:07

How tall is your child? I think you'd be better to do paulton park instead.

Movinondown · 21/01/2026 22:14

Jumping on this as planning similar for 3rd bday for my son, also have a 6 year old girl, was planning Cbeebies but had never heard of Thomasland! Looks loads better! Anyone done both and can compare? What's the rest of Drayton manor like for the six year old? She can tolerate Thomas but would be good to do other stuff!!

NeverHadHaveHas · 21/01/2026 22:20

You could do CBeebies land in a morning or afternoon, it’s really small. We went for the Santa sleepover at Alton towers when dc were small and it was freezing, quiet and pretty unimpressive, even for the dc. Two days there would be a real slog to pass the time with a two year old in my opinion.

As I said above, Thomasland is loads better. There is also more in the the rest of the park, including a zoo area and some smaller rollercoasters suitable for a 6 year old. It’s more compact too so not lots of walking.

TheMAFSfan · 22/01/2026 18:03

anyone tried lightwater valley?

Cbeebies land is tiny, easy to do in a day. Also check height restrictions as my 2yo wasn't able to go everything. I would recommend paultons park which has peppa pig world, it's huge and much more to do and see

Lightsandrainbows · 22/01/2026 19:45

We’re about 5 hours from Paultons unfortunately.

We went just before DD turned 3 so she was free. She is very tall child so she could go on most of the rides but most 2 year olds would be too small for them. We stayed in a premiere inn near by and got the tickets through tesco clubcard.

user2848502016 · 22/01/2026 19:53

We did 2 days/1 night all booked as a package, we managed everything we wanted to see and some of the rest of Alton towers in that time.
If you stay in one of the resort hotels you’ll be closer so have less travel time - so pay for one night in a resort hotel rather than two further away

Have you done gulivers land?

Lightsandrainbows · 22/01/2026 21:04

No, will take a look. Tbh I just liked CBeebies because i thought she would like it being themed to characters she loves. Peppa world would be even better but the travel is a bit much.

We have merlin passes. We go to lots of theme parks. My kids liked cbeebies, but the number of rides for little kids is limited. Peppa pig world (not part of merlin) had a lot more rides that they could go on. We would pick that above all the others but legoland winsor would be out second favourite.

A random option, have you considered doing a break at Butlins? You have the pool with the wave machine and little slides, soft play, mini funfair rides, puppet shows. If you dont have other kids and can go during term time you should be able to get a cheap deal.

I have done both, I’m not far from either, Thomas land is way better in my opinion. It has parks and a soft play and there are way more rides plus rides round the main park too, we go a couple times a year with my 5 year old
