Arriving at airport at midnight for a 6am flight

Getting a 2 hour taxi to airport at 10pm so arriving at around midnight. For a flight at 6am.

Friends are doing this instead of booking a hotel and I think they're crazy. Just get a hotel!

Did it once, never again. Was miserable.

Tired Ded GIF

Yes, tried sleeping a bit and kept getting told off by security, worrying about getting mugged or worse, ruined the trip for me!

I’d book a taxi or shuttle to the airport. Arriving around 1–2 am gives time for check-in and security before your 6 am flight. It’s less stressful than rushing.

I don’t understand why they wouldn’t get their taxi at 2 am instead of 10 PM? Not that I would be getting a taxi for a two hour journey. I would be driving the previous day, having an early tea and trying to get an early sleep in the airport hotel .

Must admit I’m grateful that an early hours airport taxi only takes me 45 minutes, although this can double in rush hour.

I’ve found on a couple of occasions that Ryanair baggage drop wasn’t letting you drop your cases until two hours before your flight. Obviously depends on the airport plus airline.

I’ve taken the last domestic flight to Gatwick to catch a ski holiday flight the next mornings with friends around those times. It’s pretty grim but at least quiet. After two years the next one I got a pod bed in the yotel in the terminal. Then I decided even that’s too grim. I get proper airport hotel now and go to bed early.

I did it once but only because we had to get the last coach from Bristol to Gatwick & it arrived around 11pm & our flight was around 6am the following day. It was back in the days before Internet. We went to a travel agents, picked a hotel & then they gave us all the travel info. Didn't bat an eyelid. We slept at the airport overnight. Did the same on the way back. Wouldn't dream of doing it now!

I'd probs hit the bar.

No! Would start my holiday by being tired and grumpy. Which wouldn’t be pleasant for anyone. Have always booked an airport hotel in such circumstances.
