Looking for somewhere to celebrate a big birthday. I love Venice but have only ever been in the summer. Can anyone tell me what it’s like in October- weather, things to do, busyness etc?

thank you!

Amazing! Quiet, not stinky and the light is lovely.

It’s brilliant. We went in October a couple of years ago and caught the last week of summer (c.20°). It couldn’t have been more perfect – enough busyness to get a buzz, not so much as to stop you from doing everything, and to get away from it all you have to do is move back a couple of blocks.

I went in October last year and loved it. However, it was absolutely freezing some days when the sun wasn’t out. I took an old cotton trench coat with me and ended up wearing four or five T-shirts underneath to keep warm 🙈

Not as busy as the summer and you won’t have to queue for ages for main tourist attractions.

I’ve been to Venice in September and November, both were fabulous. Definitely cool in November but so peaceful, especially in the evening. Even in September it was quiet once we moved away from the main tourist areas.

We went at the start of November 2025 and it was wonderful, lucky to have warmish (not hot) weather, not too crowded, no very long queues or need to book everything way in advance - perfect!

I went beginning of oct last year and it was warm - no jacket and sunglasses. No big crowds either .

Ive been to Venice in November, December and March. Winter can be very cold on the canals so wrap up warm. Take a woolly hat to cover your ears. However the PP who say its so much better without the crowds are correct. I recommend December because the shops are beautifully decorated and it can be magical just window shopping. Another plus is that some of the restaurants and attractions can be a bit grumpy in the crowded season. However when there are fewer tourists you will get better service and people are happier to chat.
