Just DH and myself, late 40's- no kids. It last minute due to multiple work related issues. We generally like European city breaks, but could go longer haul for 2, max 3 weeks somewhere warmer. Or a few places. We spent 2 weeks all around Sicily one year which we enjoyed. Into food, local sites and history, but happy to just relax somewhere too. Where would you recommend for March?

We're going to Las Palmas in Gran Canaria again this year. We went last year and loved it. Lots of fab restaurants, not overly touristy as it's a real working city. The old town is lovely and gorgeous for a night out as is the marina. Not as hot as Lanzarote but still shorts/dresses during the day and just an added jacket in the evening. It's apparently easy to get to other areas of Gran Canaria from the bus station but we weren't bothered with that.

@Plump82 Thank you. Strangely, I've always discounted the Canaries thinking some parts would be Brits Abroad touristy and not much to see do other than sunbake. Off to google more now.

What about Belize or Sri Lanka? I did Sri Lanka in February probably 20 years ago now, but it's the perfect time of year. Belize is high on my wishlist, not yet been, in fact central America is lacking in my travel history. Both places offer culture and relaxation options.

Definitely consider Malaga. Cheap flights, warm already in March so relaxing on the beach is an option for chill-out days. If you like history, you're falling over it in Malaga.. old town, cathedral, roman amphitheatre, castle and fortress. Plus its easy to get trains to Ronda, Cordoba, even Seville and Granada if you fancy a few nights somewhere else. Lovely Spanish food too.

Id also agree with Málaga however we've been in March and it really wasn't warm and actually pretty wet. But I guess that's the chance you take.
@7238SM it's definitely not Brits abroad in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. There was a fair few places we went that didn't have English menus which we actually take as a good sign! We actually didn't really hear many people speaking in English either.

@Lemonandlimejelly @Plump82 I tried to keep my OP short, but we've been to Malaga many times and loved it. I'm always recommending it to others too. A close friend of DH's lived there, but sadly died suddenly a year ago. DH doesn't feel ready to return.

Never been to Seville or Grenada though. Also looking at Las Palmas. Thanks for the suggestions- any other places to go in Mar?

If you have a couple of weeks you could go to Vietnam. Lots and lots of history and it is very cheap when you get there.

Caribbean. Weather is perfect and only 4/5 hrs time difference. Beautiful beaches.

reluctantbrit · 23/01/2026 07:29

For that amount of time and if you have the budget I would go long haul.

Caribbean is good weather wise, we found Barbados really interesting, it's more than just sun and beach, or you could island hopping.

Asia? Thailand is good for the weather and you could mix a sightseeing tour with some beach days at the end. Vietnam similar but you need to check where to go.
