Where should we go in Feb HT?

FebTrip · 11/01/2026 21:43

We have a week off in Feb HT, but nothing booked. DS13 and I love the snow, both ski, DD10 doesn’t ski but wants to learn. DH hates snow and cold and doesn’t ski but could be persuaded by some out door activities.

He wants to go to Tenerife, I want something active, cultural, and different. Could be city, could be wildlife, I hate sitting by pool.

Budget is not an issue, would prefer something under 6h flight.

I looked at Egypt (valley of the kings) but looks like it is silly season for tourists sadly!

Anyone have any great suggestions?!

Mmm, what about a cruise? There’s different activities at different stops maybe a Norwegian feuds one! We went with ours last year and I wasn’t really knowing how I would feel but it was amazing! Would deffo recommend x

FebTrip · 11/01/2026 21:55

Cruise sounds fab where and when did you go? My worry on Feb is stormy seas and also Norway would be very dark! I think we probably aren’t cruisers, more outdoor activity perhaps?

We went in August, but they seem to do the cruises where is good for the time of year, maybe look on iglu! I didn’t think we were, but there is so much to do on sea days, and when you visit an area there are so many different activities you can do which would probably fit your criteria maybe? You could do jet skiing and all sorts of outdoorsy activities, and there’s no flight it was so nice, we gave our bags in and were on the ship exploring within 20mins, it was honestly just the best I would deffo investigate!! :)

Morocco

mountains for snow, Marrakesh for cultural,

Christmaseree · 11/01/2026 23:14

Dubai, Qatar, Oman, Nile river cruise/Luxor (I don’t think Valley of the Kings would be too busy), Gran Canaria or Tenerife (lots of good days out), Granada and somewhere else in Spain, Athens, Rome and somewhere else in Italy,, Istanbul (fabulous), could be combined with Cappadocia, Transylvania.

hohahagogo · 11/01/2026 23:18

Don’t forget that on more cruises you spend your days ashore do can do activities, sightseeing etc. could you do activities in the canaries and your dh gets his sun?

ABeerInTheSunshineMakesMeHappy · 11/01/2026 23:48

What about Granada / Sierra Nevada’s in Spain? You can get in your skiing, some hiking, some culture and it’s not too far to take a trip down to the coast either (and it should be pleasantly warm on the southern Spain coast in the day time).

I wouldn’t completely write off Tenerife either. There are definitely opportunities for hiking there and surely there are some cultural opportunities?

@Snicksnacksnora
laughing at the Norwegian feuds !

great suggestions! We did Dubai last year, do you think Luxor would be ok? Also how to get there. My dad would hate Cairo as so crowded and polluted, it would freak her out so don’t want to stop there

will look at these, thanks

Sierra Nevada sounds interesting thanks! Tenerife is a massive no. It’s not even warm and too many brits for me I’m afraid. Appreciate I’m British but still bugs me!

What about a group tour to Morocco, so something like this: https://www.explore.co.uk/search?query=&experiences=11&countries=6082
Or you could sort a similar itinerary out independently. Intrepid (different travel company) have options too, can Google. I've travelled with both Intrepid and Explore as an adult, but not since having kids. However I have booked Namibia (with Exodus, but they don't offer family Morocco) for the summer as have a significant birthday in 2026.

Search - Explore

Search the Explore site and find your next adventure holiday today.

Thanks @TeamGeriatric I will take a look! The only thing that bothers me about Morocco and Egypt is hygiene, I hear endless stories from friends about coming back with food poisoning. Seems to be inevitable??

Club La Santa in Lanzarote if you want activity and sunshine

Octavia64 · 12/01/2026 08:43

You don’t need to go via Cairo to go to Egypt.

tourist flights mostly go straight to destination. We stayed in Hurghada (not much there) and did a day trip to the valley of the kings. It’s a hell of a place.

been to Egypt three times and Morocco twice never got food poisoning. Stayed at international hotels both times, but ate lots of street food in Morrocco (one of the best things about the place in my view).

Decorhate · 12/01/2026 08:59

@FebTrip My ds and her BF both had food poisoning in Morocco recently, as did a colleague's son. So it would be a no from me.

How about Spain? Had great weather in Valencia that time of year in the past. Also Seville is very far south so reliable.

You can fly direct to Luxor from Gatwick.

I have never had food poisoning in Egypt and I’ve been to Tenerife three times in Feb and had lovely weather on each trip.

Doha is really good if you want culture and something a bit different. The museums are fantastic, one is designed by the same person that did The Louvre. Boat trips and visits to forts and fishing villages are also worth doing.

We went to Cuba in February - it was amazing. (Me, my teens and younger children).

mismomary · 12/01/2026 18:06

Go skiing!! Austria would suit you all I think, lots for DH to do, luxury spas, trips to Salzburg. And he might enjoy watching the DC progress in their skiing.

exLtEveDallas · 12/01/2026 18:16

Cyprus.
You can ski up the Troodos Mountains.
DH can go to the beach
You can all do a 24/48 hour mini cruise to Egypt and see the Pyramids/Cairo Museum

Owlmoonstar · 12/01/2026 18:19

Madeira?

No skiing, but lots of mountain hikes.

This is what I would really love to do! I feel like I need to suggest a couple of options as none of them will be an absolute yes for him…
