for the third time in 3 years. Arm is in plaster and pinned after an operation last night. Kids and I are flying to Spain on 4 July and a friend pointed out today that I might have problems with the airline. Does anyone have any experience of this? Should I get a letter from the hospital stating ds is okay to fly? We don't have travel insurance outside our normal medical insurance which is compulsory in Holland where we live. TIA

DD had to have a letter from the hospital consultant to say that she was fit to fly and saying what date the plaster was put on.

There is a critical time after plaster is on that airlines wont' take you incase of medical /swelling complications. I can remember something about an open cast?

Anyways as for the pins - dd1 had pins after complications with a dislocation, after operation, the pins were sticking out, left in place for 4 weeks, pins removed about 10 days before flight then another plaster on for the holiday.

Sorry to hear about your ds. Will he still have the pins in when you fly?

Also, I would contact the airline to see what they advise.

thanks for that info and for the link. Ds needs a new cast on the 28th June and we fly in the 4 July so it would seem from the information that he should be okay. Pins stay in for 6 months

So sorry to hear that, makes your stomach knot up doesn't it?

DD still enjoyed her holiday. Although she did fall over (couldn't break her fall with her arm in a cast) and hit her face on the edge of a table the day we were due to fly so spent the whole time looking like a battered child with a black bruise on her forehead and nose (plus arm in a cast). We had lots of locals make a fuss of her though, and kept giving us evil looks and asking what had happened.
