4 nights in Malta in April with 4 year old

Hi all,

We’re considering Malta for a 4-night break in the first week of April for my husband’s 50th, travelling with our nearly-5-year-old. Wondering if it’s a good option weather-wise — would it be warm enough for some pool/beach time, or is it more sightseeing weather?

We’re not big hotel/all-inclusive people and would prefer somewhere relaxed with good local food, history and culture, but still family-friendly.
Any thoughts on:

  • Best area to stay
  • What April is like weather-wise
  • Whether Malta works well with a child this age for a short break

Any advice or experiences very welcome — thank you! 😊

We went in April a few years back and it wasn’t warm enough for t-shirts, let alone pool time. It was nice for sightseeing though.
We stayed in Sliema and got the bus to Valletta, 3 cites and my favourite, Mdina. We also walked to St Julians, which has a small sandy beach.
There’s not much for a 4 year old, it’s more an over 50’s / history lover’s place tbh. We went for the Military history.

We went at Easter a few years ago and it was chilly. We stayed in St Paul’s bay and lots of places were closed. The season hadn’t officially started.

we did have a good time and Valletta is beautiful

I love Malta, loads to do. Weather wise I don’t think it’s guaranteed t shirts and pool weather in April though.

I loved Valletta, but it’s very hilly, so hopefully your little one is a good walker?

We went with a four year old at Easter ,but many years ago, so not sure if it’s changed. He loved the buses and boat trip to Gozo and playing on the ramparts there.

Fabulous place for a family break, your DC will love it. Visiting Valetta is essential, as there is so much to see in such a small area. Your DC will love St Georges Square, which has pavement water fountains that the can run in and out of. The small water taxi that criss cross Grand Harbour are cheap and a great way to arrive in the City. Maltese people are incredibly friendly and love kids.
