Just that really. We're in our early 50s and had a child late in our 40s. We never seem to have enough money and everything just gets more and more expensive. We are both working but don't earn that much. We rented for so long that we didn't get on the property ladder until late. We have holidays but they're the same each year, a caravan in Devon. Never anything more adventurous. We would have to get passports sorted too which is more expense. I don't know what i'm asking really except why have we got so boring and even too scared to go anywhere different? It's crazy when you only get one life!

We have had some lovely and very budget friendly holidays abroad when the kids were younger and money was tighter. It just depends what you’re happy with.

a holiday we had in Corsica comes to mind. Flights, a chalet on a canvas holiday park and car hire came to a total of about £800 for the last week of the summer hols for 4 of us. That was a while ago now and prices have increased but you can still do things on a budget if you look hard enough.

we have had serval holidays abroad for less then the price of a bronze haven caravan for the same week in Cornwall. Always used to make me happy to compare. That said, we’ve had some lovely U.K. holidays too. You don’t have to go abroad, but don’t write it off. It doesn’t have to be very expensive.

get one passport done a year and don't do them all at once, drive to france and stay at a euro camp, or get a jet2 holiday last minute, we had a tight period and only went anywhere if family helped, but built our careers so we can do a bit more.

Also doesn't need to be Devon every time you stay in the UK.

Some of the municiple sites are lovely, but I still find you can't beat Eurocamp if you go for May half term instead of Sunmer holidays.
For example, last time we stayed with our own tent at a municipal site in August, it was €30 per night for 5 people, non electric.
This May we are staying 5 nights at a Eurocamp for £40 a night. That includes tourist tax, use of swimming pools, electricity, beds etc.

Daft idea about the passports, if they do that it will take time before they can go anywhere together in which time they're wasting time on the ones they got first.

They could get the money for passports by switching their bank account 2 or 3 times.

They can probably also go abroad for less than the cost of a caravan in Devon.

You can go to Ireland without a passport.

Another vote for May half term - Southern Europe is definitely hot at the end of May. We literally took our main holiday then until the DC hit their teens because it's significantly cheaper than July/Aug and it's pretty much mid 20's if not hotter. One of our cheapest May HT weeks was self driving to Duinrell. If you can get cheap budget flights (stalk on the day of release the previous autumn!) also look at other EU site operators. We got a last minute deal with Gustocamp at Union Lido Mare (Venice) and it was much better than the TUI/Eurocamp ones - we compared with another British family that we met out there when our DC made friends with theirs.
