What to wear on safari?

I'd be grateful for any advice!

We are doing a ten day safari with dds age 13 and 15 in July/Aug in Botswana. I know it will be winter there, so we will need to be ready for cooler evenings and mornings, but also that packing light will be preferable.

Has anyone done a similar trip and has any advice about what they took?

Definitely layers in natural fabrics where possible. A shirt over a vest top/ T-shirt is good with a fleece or one of those thin puffers over the top. Our safari lodge gave us fleece blankets and hot water bottles on morning drives. Lots of mozzie spray and sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, binoculars . In the evenings for dinner we wore long trousers and shirts ( to prevent mozzies!). It’s the most amazing experience, have the best time!!

My top tip is take malaria tablets at night. They can upset your stomach and you do not want to be out on a game drive!

We always wear walking trousers and long sleeve shirts, just easier to avoid bites than cover in chemicals. Avoid navy and black trousers as the flies love them.

Sounds amazing ! My tips would be just about the mozzies, we wore long light trousers and long sleeved tops (cuffs and elasticated where we could) and deeted up continually, we found roll on better than any sort of spray - it comes in the right sized bottle for travel, is greasy but you smooth it on much better. You end up constantly smelling of deet, but it is better than the alternative.
