Amsterdam help

My son and I are planning a trip to Amsterdam within the next couple of months but I'm absolutely ignorant of where to look at staying etc. I'm 55, son mid 30's, we will not be sharing a room so maybe an air b&b but hotels aren't out of the question. We don't mind using public transport but don't want to be too far out. Also, any suggestions on what to see and do? I'm looking forward to spending this time with my son so any suggestions will be appreciated

How long are you going for?

A nice Airbnb apartment centrally is just lovely.

Our favourite way to do Amsterdam is to stay in amstelveen and use bikes to cycle in through the heem parks. Weather might not be great for that but if you go in March the bulbs in the heem parks will be beautiful.

I like the area (and the hotel ) around Estherea on Singel
10 minute walk from the railway station, nice view over to the canal in the front and lots of shops and restaurants in walking distance

The Van Gogh museum is good (even if you’re not especially into art). The Anne Frank house is also excellent, but book well in advance.

The Nemo science museum was one of our highlights, but probably mainly for kids unless you’re particularly into that kind of thing - however, it does have a roof terrace which is free to access and gives great views over the city, so even if you don’t want to go to the museum itself it’s a nice little trip to see the view.

We enjoyed a canal boat tour.

I was disappointed with Van Gogh. The entrance is tricky. Too many stairs. Etc
there's a new holocaust museum

Ann Frank is ok but you know. Rammed.

The Resistance Museum is excellent. They have a children’s section which they recommend for kids up to 13, but I would recommend it to anyone who did not have a Dutch education.

Pension Homeland is my favourite it's an easy walk from Centraal station walking by the water passing the NEMO museum. It was a naval officer's lodgings. Great views over the water and a nice outside sitting area. It's popular with families. Prices are reasonable for Amsterdam.
