Where to stay in Amsterdam

Your help is needed! Myself and my partner are due to go to Amsterdam in April/May but we have no idea where is a good place to stay. Ideally for 4 nights in a nice (but not extravagant!) hotel….. looking at about £1200 for the hotel. I’ve found a nice one but it is just outside of Amsterdam but I’ve been told that it’s best to stay in the centre. Please can I have any recommendations. Thanks

We stayed at the Kimpton De Witt and would recommend. Also very central.

We stayed at the Hoxton Lloyd in the Eastern Docklands. Quirky, liked the neighbourhood, fabulous building - refurbed offices of a shipping company, 5 mins in team to Dam Square. There’s a Hoxton in the city centre too.

We stayed in the Westcord Fashion Hotel Amsterdam, I wanted one with a pool. We got trams into the centre: I’d stay there again; I don’t think it’s important to stay right in the centre, if you were in London or Paris you’d probably have to get public transport somewhere during your stay so no big deal in my opinion to take a 10/15 minute tram ride twice a day

Thank you- lots of really useful tips. I’m booking the hotel today and will then book the Anne Frank house tour when it becomes available.

Just coming back to say the Combi Keukenhof/bus tickets have now been released. I thought it departed Centraal station but it seems it starts from/returns to RAI . Any tips to avoid a long wait on the return?

We stayed in Haarlem which is a lovely town 15 minutes away by fast and frequent train. Beautiful shops and restaurants. It was a relief to get back there after spending the days in super busy touristy amsterdam.

Something like the Ambassade is in a good location. I highly recommend being central and candalside. Several canals to choose from in a ring formation. They are all pretty and there’s no “wrong” location. A bit further out Jordaan is great but choose what you want to see, and don’t go too far away from your choices.

We stayed at MELIA, few stops in the metro from the centre. Really reasonable very clean hotel. Would defo stay there again.

I prefer to stay in Haarlem when I go. It’s an easy 15min train ride to centraal.
Haarlem has lovely shops and restaurants plus a lively market twice a week. It’s relaxed, less crowded, the streets are not full of rubbish and rats or the stink of cannabis and vomit.
