Weather in Australia in July/August

We arrive in Sydney on 27 July, and spend a week there. Then off to Tangalooma, just off the coast of Brisbane for 5 days, and then up to Hamilton Island in the Whitsundays for 5 days.

I'm assuming that the further North we go, the warmer it will get, and that we will have decent, hot weather in the Whitsundays.

But what kind of temperatures can we expect further South - especially in Sydney?

I want to keep our packing to a minimum, especially as we're doing a reasonable amount of travelling around, but don't want to be caught out with the wrong clothes!

Any Ozzies out there who can give me an idea of what to expect?

TIA

You're right that it will be warmish further North, but you will definitely need warm jumpers and a waterproof jacket in Sydney.

Warm jumpers all day or just for the evening?

Hi, we went to Oz at about the same time last year. However, we were in Tasmaina for a lot of the time ---- cold will need jumpers for day time and waterproof. We also went up to Brisbane at the end of July and the weather was much nicer, around 21-22 degrees, cooler of an evening though so a light jumper needed. Didn't go further up than that, but generally you are right in that the weather warmer as you go up.

Sydney can be very cold and miserable in our summer. Jumpers in the day especailly if on the coast or going up to the mountains.
Brisbane better but no guarantee they've had a lot of rain recently.
Sorry

Think cold - remember it's Winter here. Sydney had it's coldest July day for 21 years last year at 3.5 degrees, apparantly the average July temperature is 17 degrees. It's really rainy here at the moment and I've got the heating on, I'm feeling a bit conned tbh

Australian houses are not generally geared up for the cold so if you are renting a holiday house or apartment instead of staying in hotels check the heating. When we arrived in Winter last year our short stay accommodation was an open plan townhouse with tiled floors and NO heating. Would have been gorgeous in Summer.

I'm in Sydney at the moment and you would need a jumper or a jacket and probably both in the evening. And especially in the mountains. And a flippin umbrella.

But you may be lucky and have a week of sunshine and coldness.

It has rained and been cloudy a lot recently.

So just like it is here at the moment!

I know it's winter in Sydney, so not expecting much in terms of sunshine/heat, but was hoping that further North would be better.

Just wanted to make sure that we pack for all eventualities without having to pack ridiculous stuff.
