Awful food poisoning in Peru, travelling with a friend, luckily en-suite room, but one of those open bins for the toilet paper, we both had it and were taking turns in the loo for 24 hours. Luckily good friends!

flooded on holiday in a lovely family owned French hotel looked like I’d killed a pig on the bed and then another one in the bathroom. Sent DH out for ibuprofen, tena lady (no pad was going to soak it up) and noristherone. Never happened before or since. Got home and got hrt from the doctor….

Severe food poisoning on my last night in Seville about 15 years ago. I’d eaten a dodgy mussel in a paella.

I was vomiting so badly all night and then the explosive diarrhoea started in the early hours. My flight was at 9.30am but I hadn’t even left the villa by then. Ended up having to pay an extra 4 nights as so poorly and no flights. Friends had to go home so I was all alone, it was horrendous and scary.

To top it all off, work didn’t believe me and told me I faced a disciplinary when I got back 🤦🏻‍♀️ Luckily I no longer work there.

I fell over on holiday and broke my arm in 3 places. The hospital was great though and strapped it up really well so I could continue with my holiday and then we just went straight to a&e from the airport when we got home.

Gastroenteritis in Ireland aged 11. I was in isolation, on a drip and lost half a stone. My DM also sprained her ankle on the same holiday.

That’s horrendous about your work.

Food poising /virus on a Nile cruise in 2002 and a stomach bug in Malaysia.

Food poisoning which led to multi organ failure, pneumonia and a coma back in the UK. Hideous.

A broken wrist in Myanmar. Everybody was wonderful, from the temple employee (where I had slipped on a marble floor) giving me water, to the cab driver who carefully drove me to hospital and insisted on waiting to take me back to my hotel, to the anaesthetist who kept me talking about British prog rock while the surgeon and half a dozen students got it back into place and strapped it up. They gave me the x-rays to bring home and the hospital here had to scrabble around to find a light box but couldn't fault the work 🙂

Open fracture of my tib/fib on a Greek island when i 18 and on holiday with friends rather than parents.

Hospital was terrible and made a proper mess of things. I had a further 3 operations once i got back to the UK.

First time I was taking the kids abroad by myself, they were 7, 5 and 2 - I got food poisoning, I was sat on the toilet throwing up into the bin and panicking about how my kids would cope if I ended up hospitalised.

It went off as quickly as it came on and we had a fantastic holiday, I didn’t let it put me off travelling alone with them again.

Suspected food poisoning at 35000ft after leaving Los Angeles airport. They cordoned off a loo especially for me but I just got worse & worse. Had oxygen then they wrapped me in a blanket & laid me down in the aisle at the back of the plane. Someone who looked like the former MP Douglas Hurd stood on me 🤦🏼‍♀️. Was truly grim. Not for my husband though. He had two dinners & finished watching his film. Claims the cabin staff told him not to bother me. Over 20years later & I still upcast it.

Car crash in a third world country when I was 21, more than 20 years ago. Week in hospital but only bruises and severe concussion. I should have died.
The stuff I saw in that hospital. 😱
Won’t name the country because it’s immediately outing.
