Had a really bad xmas last year, and me and dd are the sole surviving members of the bunting clan, so want to go somewhere exciting for xmas week-where to?

Dd wants to go to disneyland-not a hope! Where can we go that is fun for dd (4), but also ok for me too. Don't want to be here this xmas as it will remind me of last year (mum was in the last stages of leukaemia and in intensive care from the end of Nov until she died), and don't want to see all the smug happy couples and loving families. Was thinking of going to lapland, but seems a lacking in originality. Any ideas?

I'm sorry for your loss ILB.

Do you want it to be warm and outdoorsy or snowy with roaring fires to snuggle up to? I would be very tempted by Lapland myself, and it would be original for your dd.

Roaring fires and reindeers etc I think. We're not v hot people-we melt . She was so desperate for disney-but I think maybe santa would be a good replacement!!

hi. sorry to hear about your mum.....how sad...

we went to avimore in scotland many many years ago....it was fab! proper snowing, log cabin, freezing cold, reindeers etc...

lapland would be great.

we've been on winter city breaks to bruges, which was realllllly lovely. cold, crispy, nice shops, [pretty city...feels christmassy there, and also have been to prague...again, really fab. not sure if you'd need a whole week there though tbh.

some food for thought there anyway.

Ooooh I've heard prague is amazing! And Bruges! I just want a really "proper" christmas this year. The santa hols are £ but are full board and have some amazing activities too-and I think dd may go free. And you set off on xmas eve! How exciting!!! The website doesn't work tho so need to ring them later tonight!!

How about Tivoli in Denmark. (It's an anagram of 'I love it'!).

Whereas Lapland will cost you a couple of grand for a night or two you could go there with all the wonderful Christmas markets, snow, Father Christmass etc.etc.

Very, very pretty and Christmassey.

Have a look at www.pyhi.fi, santa and all the snow you could want

What about a trip to somewhere like Austria for snow, Xmas markets, sleigh rides and Santa?
