Please help a clueless first timer. Taking a 4-month old on beach/pool holiday - what do we need?

So, we're off to Italy for a fortnight's sunshine in July which will be fab but have no idea what we're going to need. Have only spent one night away from home so far and seemed to take everything but the kitchen sink.

DS has only just had his jabs so we've not done swimming yet and I'm overwhelmed by the choice of swim nappies and UV tents etc.

Do we need them? Have just ordered a sun-hat but that's as far as I've got.

PLEASE HELP ME!

We took ds1 to turkey at 4 months, the things id recommend are:

  • Plenty high factor suncream/sunblock
  • Swim nappies, the huggies ones are good
  • Plenty loose cotton t-shirts to wear in the water
  • Sun hat
  • Parasol for the buggy
  • baby milk if not bf
  • Sterilising tablets and a bottle brush
  • Calpol
  • dummy for take off and landing

Im sure i'll think of more in a minute

you must buy a sunsuit swimming suit that zip up the front. they are invaluable and take the stress out of endlessly applying sun lotion.

Ooh these all helpful.
Yes we are flying.
I'm vaguely thinking something for teething, can teeth come in within a fortnight??

Would take calpol for that, plus bonjela or similar, and teething toys

A lot depends on whether you are bf/bottle and hotel/self-catering. I would definitely aim to get all but travel-necessary nappies when you get there as they will take up so much unnecessary space. Disposable (unfortuntaely!) are really the only way to go on holiday imo. Can also really recommend the Lindam steriliser bags if you are bottle/self-c - fantastic things! Definitely a UV suit.

2 piece UV suits make it easier to change nappies.

Sun canopies give better coverage from sun than parasols and if you're out at night I'd reccomend this to protect from mozzie bites www.outlooktm.com/shade-a-babe.php.

A baby carrier makes life easier at the airport when you hand your pushchair over, especially at the other end when they don't always deliver your pushchair to the gate.
