Long-haul holiday as a single parent?

I’m considering going to Japan with my DD for around 10 days. She would be turning 8 during that time. We’ve been on many holidays just the two of us and we’ve always had a great time. However, I’m a bit anxious because this is very far away, and I’m worried that if something happened to me, my DD wouldn’t know what to do. This is my main concern, and I can’t seem to get over the fear. I was fine before and we even went on long-haul holidays, until my ex-MIL suggested that if something happened to me, my DD would be stuck and wouldn’t know what to do, which took the fun out of travelling for me.

She'd be just as stuck in Tunbridge Wells as Tokyo.

Oh god you could die, you could just have a great time. Have a plan, talk to her. Get on with your life. Enjoy Japan it’s amazing.

I travel a lot as a single parent. You will be fine. I label envelopes with travel insurance documents and parental consent to travel forms in a special place in my rucksack. My 10 year old is also able to open my phone code to access contact details like their Dad in case of an emergency. Have fun. I absolutely love travelling around together
