Flying to Sydney in sumner and stopping over in South Korea for a week. Which airline is good, safe and reliable?

So the Seoul based airlines Asiana or Korean Air are good options, direct flight from UK to Seoul and then direct flight Seoul to Sydney. I used both those airlines when we went from Sydney to Uzbekistan via Seoul, Asiana was the fancier of those two, but both fine. Otherwise you'd have to look for a good code share scenario, Qantas will fly Seoul to Sydney, so maybe you can use one of their code share partners to fly UK to Seoul? I have also been know to book UK - Asia as a return flight and then booked Asia - Australia as a separate return flight. Usually use this scenario when I want to do a quirky route, we have family in Oz so do the trip every couple of years, so last summer we went UK - Singapore - Sydney - Tokyo - UK. Have also done UK - Singapore - Sydney - Maldives - UK. Skyscanner website will give you options.

Thank you. Will look at Asiana and Korean air. Some reviews were not encouraging though, but I guess is similar with all airlines

Virgin is flying direct to Seoul from March.
We’ve flown a few times on Korean Air and found it fine.

Admittedly it was 10 years ago when I used them, but they are both rated 5* airlines on skytrax. Though I do think quality of economy air travel offering is diminishing in general. We went with KLM on the UK - Asia leg in the summer and they charge for seat reservations, headrests on the seats were almost none existent and the blankets were very well washed. Japan airlines were much more luxurious but you'd need an extra flight between Tokyo & Seoul to use them.

That is interesting. Korean Air is a codeshare for Virgin and you get your virgin points if you fly with them. We flew business class with them to NZ, changing in Seoul. It was the best flight ever.

@Changename12 i didn’t know that about Korean Air and Virgin and codeshare - thank you.
We’re flying to Korea this spring in Virgin. Does that mean Virgin points can be added to my Korean Air ones?

I am not sure I understand your question completely.
Prior to going to NZ we had only been on 1 virgin flight to NY and had a few points. After we had been to NZ we got the points transferred to our virgin flying club points. I can’t remember if we entered our flying club number before or after we flew. My husband actually had a bit of difficulty getting his points transferred and had to send virgin an email, but he got them in the end.

@38thparallel
I don’t know if it works the other way round.

I’ve googled it - sorry, I should’ve done that in the first place - and they can be used for reward flights. .

When DH travelled to South Korea once a month for work he always flew with Lufthansa via Frankfurt.

IceBrownie · 23/12/2025 16:07

We did the opposite trip with Asiana when living in Sydney and they were great

boatyardblues · 23/12/2025 16:12

We’ve flown economy with Asiana from LHR to Incheon. I don’t have much experience of long haul so can’t compare but it was comfortable with decent legroom. We were well fed and watered. I have no complaints. I am flying with them again next year, same route.
