Lake Garda hotel

Can anyone recommend a 4-5* hotel at the southern part of Lake Garda next year early September?

Family trip with 19 year old DD after 5 days Florence to relax and recover. Should be in walking distance to restaurants/bars and if possible a spa.

Looking at B&B with a nice breakfast. No real idea about a budget but happy to pay for comfort.

Poiano Resort is beautiful

tennissquare · 20/12/2025 22:06

We went in August and stayed at Du Lac et Du Parc in Riva del Garda in the north. It was wonderful and walking distance of loads of restaurants and next to the lake as well as the town. A free transfer from Verona airport is included in the room rate. We have also been to Pescheria twice and stayed in a Relais hotel in a rural setting last time. It’s a wonderful area although very busy in August.

sittingonabeach · 20/12/2025 22:08

Would recommend Du Lac et Du Parc if staying in the North

Verite1 · 20/12/2025 22:25

How funny - I’ve also stayed in du lac et du parc in Riva. Twice in fact (though never got a free transfer from the airport!). We loved it (and the north of lake Garda generally). Cant help with recommendations in south. We stayed in bardolina which I definitely recommend as a town but weren’t keen on our hotel.

Poiano Resort is beautiful

But nowhere near lots of restaurants or bars, or the lake front. Try Regina Adelaide.

We stayed in Bardolina but the hotel was slightly outside of the town so not within walking distance of bars and restaurants. It's a beautiful town with lots of lovely bars and restaurants. Also a good base to get ferries to explore the rest of the lake. Take the bus north to Malcesine and catch the cable car up to the top of the mountain for incredible views. We also stayed in Desenzano in the South of the lake but it wasn't as pretty as Bardolina.
Sirmione is also worth a visit, although very busy!

Thanks all, will look into the north as well.

We thought south as we are coming from Florence and wanted to minimise travel time.

Hotel Nettuno in Bardolino. No spa but nice pool. Amazing resort. Lots of nice walks from there too.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 21/12/2025 10:32

@DemonsandMosquitoes we are staying at that hotel next September. We've never been before - so pleased to see it recommended. Any tips you can share? Thank you!

That's why we choose Bardolina because it's not so far north and I was thinking about transfer back to the airport ( although we flew out of Milan Bergamo)
There is a road that goes all the way around the lake but as you can imagine it gets pretty busy and can be very slow. Trains are excellent - we travelled from Milan to Verona by train and then got the bus to Bardolina.

If you time it right it doesn’t take long to get to the north of the lake, avoid Sunday mornings! I don’t think there are many large lakeside modern hotels in the south, we once stayed at the Parc hotel but it isn’t near anywhere and the food was mediocre.
I booked via Trailfinders to get the free transfer to Hotel du Lac du Parc.

owlpassport · 22/12/2025 13:37

We transferred via Peschiera in September and it was mobbed. Not relaxing at all. I definitely preferred the north of the lake from what I saw.

Look at Bellavista in Riva, or EALA in Limone if you have a good budget.

Excelsior la Terreza in Garda is lovely

We went in September. Did two days in Verona before and two days in Venice after. Used the buses to get about, although a tad unreliable and very busy! Walk to Garda and Lazise. Go to Malcesine and get the cable car up Monte Bardo on a clear day, absolutely stunning views. Bardolino is very pretty. Lots of bars and restaurants. Couldn’t fault Nettuno although not all rooms have lake view but it’s in a great position.

minipie · 22/12/2025 21:45

We stayed at Du Lac et Bellevue in Bardolino - actually not in the hotel but in their owned apartment block just down the road which meant we got more space and a kitchenette but could use the hotel breakfast and pool etc. Worked really well. The hotel also has a private lake jetty you can swim from (much easier than wading out from the beach as it’s sharp pebbles in that area of the lake).

reluctantbrit · 23/12/2025 07:39

Wow, thanks all of you. There is now a long list to look at over the Christmas days.

We stayed in Hotel Cassius gorgeous hotel and spa , right on the lake and a 10 min walk (lakeside) to Bardolino which is a lovely small town for eating out/shopping

Tomrrowandtomorrowandtommorrow · 23/12/2025 08:25

Another vote for Nettuno in Bardolino. It's small and friendly, on the lake, great food and staff. We're had a lovely week there with two teenagers who just lived in the pool which was never busy or overcrowded. I'd go back again if I could.

KEH1982 · 23/12/2025 08:35

+1 for Hotel Ceasius in Bardolino - stunning hotel and amazing food

AngelsWithSilverWings · 23/12/2025 12:02

@DemonsandMosquitoes thanks so much. We couldn't book a lake view room but we don't plan to hang around in the room much so decided it would be fine anyway as it has a nice terrace.

My favourite is Hotel Eden in Sermionie a beutiful place to wonder around in the evening. You can watch the ferry from your balcony and wonder down to catch it.

RainyDaysAndGlumDays · 23/12/2025 12:46

We stayed in Garda Town, walking distance to restaurants and the lakeside. Hotel Bisesti was nice, with a pool but no spa. Easy to get buses/boats around the lake. Walked to Bardolino (great ice cream shop).

Are the apartments far away from the hotel? I like the idea of a kitchenette but DD needs a proper bedroom, not a sofa bed.
So I wonder if we could book her a hotel room and DH and I do the apartment. She normally uses some time away from us anyway.

No they are literally one block away - a 1-2 min walk.

Our girls weren’t in sofa beds but they were Z bed type things so similar I guess. They were in the living room of the apartment so it was a separate room from us. You could book an apartment and a hotel room but if you won’t all be in the apartment I’d probably just book two hotel rooms.
