Asking for the moon…?! Summer holiday abroad for 14 yo and 5yo

For the first time in many years, we are going to be able to take a trip abroad. We usually go camping in the uk. I’m desperate to make it happen this year while DS is still young enough to want to holiday with us!

We are looking at may half term or first week of summer hols.

Id consider Eurocamp or similar, even taking our tent abroad, Airbnb, apartment, hotel etc. DP doesn’t like crowds, would hate a busy AI hotel. Ds(will be 14) fairly easy to please, would like watersports, boat trips, snorkelling, fishing etc. DD (will be 5) fairly easily pleased. Hoping for beach/seaside or lake and/or swimming pool. They will need separate rooms so looking at a 3 bed.

When I looked at a Eurocamp in Croatia it was £2000 for a small cabin for a week in July. I’d say our budget is £3000 (excluding food/activities) which I know is tight. If it was a particularly cheap place food/activities we could go to £3500.

Has anyone visited somewhere that might fit the bill and can give me details?

Have a look at Farienparadies Natter See. It’s not a massively busy or crowded site, plenty of green and nature, but the star attraction is the lake - it’s got all kinds of watersports, inflatable waterpark, a sandy beach with children’s paddling area, trampolines etc..

We had a great time in Friedrichshafen on Lake Constance this summer. We were only there for 3 days, so I booked the youth hostel but there appear to be apartments within your budget.

Thank you all for the amazing ideas. They sound great and just what I'm after! It makes such a difference to get recommendations from people who have been somewhere.

Have a look at Seecamp on Zell am See, Austria. We didn't stay there as it was closed the year we were there (we stayed at a campsite further away from the lake; kids were 14 and 12). You can cycle round the lake and into Zell, there are lake swimming areas with diving platforms. We took paddleboards too. We also did eMTB around Saalbach and high ropes at Hinterglemm.

We did Hu travel in Italy and went to park albatross and hired a car from pisa, and the following year the Rome one for sight seeing. Both amazing for different reasons. We also flew into besides and did Domaine de la yole which was again very good and had public transport to get out and about and was a short taxi transfer from the airport.

Just spent 3 days self catering at Efteling theme park with 4 children aged between 6 and 13.

On a previous trip, we stayed not far from there, at a hostel in the forest with lots of outdoor activities attached.

I would do 2 nights at Efteling, 3 nights in Bergen Op Zoom.

Love all these options! I'm going to research then show to DS after school and see what he likes the look of. Thanks so much. I'll try and update when we've selected one.
