Hi,
We are thinking of doing our first trip to America next year sometime probably around June. We are weighing up two options at the moment New York or Orlando. It will be myself, DH, DS 17 and DD 3 travelling. Which would you recommend?

Another vote for Orlando. You don’t have to do just theme parks. There are plenty of state parks and suchlike where you can go for a walk and see alligators and other wildlife. Or you can spend a few days at the beach.

I’ve been to the USA twice this year and no-one asked for my phone or where I was staying, other than the first night being entered into the Advance Passenger Information. The experience was, if anything, friendlier than usual.

You're brave travelling to the US at the moment. I suppose it will be cheaper than usual. Just make sure you have a burner phone rather than your usual one as the border patrol are taking phones and looking through them to see if there's anything bad about Trump. Also make sure you have confirmed accommodation for each night you'll be there.

June next year and I don’t tend to take my entire family on a holiday without booking a hotel 🙄

Florida, but it depends on what sort of holiday you want. New York is proper city break and might be a bit much for a 3 year old. Florida has theme parks, cape canaveral (maybe see a rocket launch) beautiful beaches and wildlife/snorkelling and food. Not sure how much time you have, but I’d do a few days at the theme parks and then head to the coast for an airbnb, maybe sanibel
or
anna Maria island. The food is great and it’s a
very laid back place.

Sanibel is beautiful.

Just got back from the USA. The immigration officer just looked at our passports and asked our plans. Didn’t ask for any proof, just joked about us leaving all our money in Disneyland and sent us on our way.
We did San Diego and then Universal and Disneyland, which worked well for a sort of combination of city break and theme park if you can face the extra flight time to the West Coast. You’ve also got San Francisco over that way, which I’ve been to before but not with kids so not sure how it would be for the 3 year old.
