Holiday for active teens

We’re looking to do a week in late July next year with 16yo DD & 14yo DS. Both DC are very sporty & adventurous. DH and I are not particularly sporty or adventurous so somewhere with sports facilities is good. Skiing works well for us as a family as does something like where they can do football camp each morning or have a tennis lesson or we can all play Padel.
Something like Mark Warner or Nielsen appeals but, from doing those types of holiday myself pre-DC, my concern would be that you tend to be tied to the hotel/resort. We like to get out a bit and be within walking distance of bars & restaurants. If AI or HB, we’d definitely want a few restaurants to choose from rather than being in the same place every night. Also, whilst DS likes water sports, he’ll be doing that at other points over the summer so will probably get his fill that way. DD doesn’t particularly enjoy them so it’s not as if that’s something we’re necessarily after.

We’ve booked Tui Active as similar style but a bit bigger, there are a couple of beach clubs in the Ionian islands which seem to offer this, plus places like club med and Sami but💰💰!!

Have a look at Families Worldwide, some great active trips.

As you already ski you'll be familiar with the Alps.

Many ski resorts in France, Austria and Italy now have extensive summer programmes - mountain bikes, zip wires and high ropes parks, swimming and sailing/canoe/paddleboard on lakes, open-air pools, paragliding, via ferrata and climbing etc. as well as hiking and cable cars that are open all summer.

Accommodation is easy to find and generally well-priced, whether you choose an apartment, a B&B or a hotel.

Kitzbuhel in Austria. Tons of hiking and outdoor activities, a lovely lake for swimming, lots of restaurants and easy access to cities or bigger towns for exploring.

Check out Slovenia . We also have active teens and we ski every year . We did Slovenia and Austria last summer .
Rafting, zip wires, canyoning , gorge walking , mountain walking/ biking, lake swimming, SUP - all brilliant !
We did Ljubljana, Lake Bled and then on to a lovely hotel in Saalbach, Austria .
Highly recommend both these accomodations

We had the most amazing week in Croatia this summer with a 12 / 13 year old.

I booked it all DIY and hired a car, and we have a great time exploring plitovice lakes (stayed in log cabins for 1 night), canoeing, boat trips, snorkelling, power boat trips.

We stayed between Split and Zadar (in a place called pirovac, mobile home style accomodation with 2 communal pools, a 5 min walk from the sea (with a sea view) and about 15min from the seaside town with so many lovely resturants to choose from)

Because we were staying away from the typical touristy areas it was really good value as not paying "tourist" prices.

We had sunshine / adventure / excellent food and a really lovely family holiday

Have a look at Alpine Elements.

Are you looking for somewhere where the teens can do activities but you and DH don’t need to? Sounds like it?

Mark Warner / Neilson work for this but yes you are quite tied to the resort. Possibly Neilson would work better as they include fewer dinners (4 nights iirc) so more chance to get out to restaurants - you’d need to pick your resort carefully to find one near a town. I believe the Croatian Neilson is popular with teens.

You could look at an Alpine or Slovenian holiday as pp suggest. Loads of outdoor activities available. If you don’t want to do the activities yourself, you’d need to sign the teens up to a group/holiday club who offer all the activities. These do exist in the Alps, often the ski schools run them in the summer, have a look at Evolution 2 for example. But I would expect most of the other kids to be French (I may be wrong about this…).

Alpine Elements is a good shout. They have a kids club to age 12 but not sure about teens, I don’t know if they would take them on activities without you going too, you could ask.

If you are willing to get stuck into the activities then there are lots more options!

Thanks for all of these suggestions. The Alps & Slovenia look like they have lots of opportunities so I will start looking there.
